Bovino Italy

Post by FLATFOOT1 »

My Great Grandparents " Cagno Family" came from Bovino Italy to the USA in 1908, and went to PA. My family has some information on my Greatgrandparents such as he had numerous brothers and sisters(several in fact). The problem is no one knows any information about these people not even their names. My Great Grandfather is Leonardo from Bovino, his father was Anthony and mother was Rose Defronzo. Anyone with any information would be helpful. thanks :

You might begin by writing to Bovino and requesting a Stato di Famiglia / Certificate of Family Status. You can use the form letter generator found at this site.

Also, according to the Italian telephone directory, there are just 8 listings for Cagno in Comune di Bovino. Almost certainly, some of these people are related to you... It can be fun to write to them and see what turns up.

The Certificato di Stato di Famiglia storico (family certificate showing date and polace of each family member) can be solicited from the Ufficio di Stato Civile IF it is available. Request one for each head of family so you might try ANTONIO CAGNO and/or LEONARDO CAGNO

Go to http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tters.html

Hello!
Is this the correct ship manifest?
(probably his second trip)
Have you checked Ellis Island for other relatives joining him in the US?
Do you have all of his US records? Census records may reveal relatives living nearby.
Thank you!

De Fonzo/Di Fonzo

headed to 1340 Penn Ave Pittsburgh

1906 manifest

27 Mar 1906, SS Lombardia, Naples to NY
line 6

Premiano Di Fonzo 23, abt 1882
- single
- mason
- last residence Bovino
- destination Pittsburgh
- joining brother Eliodoro at 1340 Penn Ave
---

This may explain why so many folks used this address - they may not have known their relative/friend's exact address in Pittsburgh

From a 1900 Pittsburgh Directory:
Steamship Agent
Jacob Klein
1340 Penn Ave
