Veri/Ciarrone Family

Post by Lyn164 »

Hello, I'm new here and trying to find info on my father's family. His father was Joseph Cherrone. The other spelling I know is Ciarrone. This may be the true spelling. My grandmother was Frances Marie Veri.

All I know is that Grandpa was from Teramo Italy. Grandma's birthday was either November or December, and she was born in the 1880's, from my calculations. Grandma passed in 1968, just before, or just after, her 84th birthday. Joseph passed when my Dad was either 11 or 12. I believe that was 1937.

I was told they came to the United States through Canada, and lived in Pennsylvania for some time. From there, they moved to Indiana. I did speak to a relative several years back who believed they were in Ohio, but Dad only enlisted in the service in Ohio.

My Dad's siblings were John, Wedo, Rose, Gerry (not her real name and I do not know her real name) Peter, Mary, Anthony, Fred, and Doris. My Dad was Dominic. I also understand there were three other children who died either as infants or as young children. One of those was also named Dominic.

My Dad did tell me that he visited his family while in the service, but that is all I know of that time period. He did not speak of his time in the service much.

I did meet one of his cousins, Joseph Calisti, many years ago. I don't know the relationship other than Dad saying they were cousins.

Any information on either side of the family would be very welcome. Thank You!

After looking at the birth year on Biff's document, here is another possibility.

Thank you all very much! I have a lot to look into more deeply. It seems I had a great deal of information that was incorrect, as far as where my grandparents went from Italy. Apparently, there are a few more children as well.

i too have been searching for the same names.
my fathers grandfather immigrated here in 1917 from teramo italy. he was born in riciano though.
he is listed as changing his name from sabatino cipollini to samuel chipolino in 1928 while applying for u.s citizenship.
the two men listed as his witnesses and who signed his affidavit swearing to know him personally are named as nicola ciaronne of export, westmoreland pennsylvania and giuseppie caliste, both have a there occupation listed as miners.
i wonder if they were good friends of my great grandfather or family to sign a pettition like that

Giuessipi Ciarrone became Joseph Cherrone. I do know that my grandfather's brother used Calisti. I can't figure out how they came to Calisti from Ciarrone though. To be honest, I don't know of any other name changes then those already listed.
