The ship is the S.S. Britania; it arrived in New York April 20, 1894. At the time, Saverio was 27 years old, Maria was 26, and they traveled with two children: son Gennaro aged 2 and daughter Anna aged 1. Traveling from Sicigano to Utica; they boarded the ship at Naples. The origianl document (larger and higher resolution) is at this page.

The full name of your ancestor's town is Comune di Sicignano degli Alburni. There is a website here.
You can try writing the town to request various documents concerning your ancestor's birth and marriage. I would suggest the following might get good results:
You could try sending the above via email to segretario.conti@hotmail.it (remove the spaces). Some comuni respond to email, others do not...

Re: Family from Sicignano
In the event you need to send a seperate letter for each document since some Comune in Italy may require individual requests to spread the work load among the clerks who research at the end of the day.

It is a tiny comune with only around 3,300 population. I doubt there are many clerks to spread the workload.PeterTimber wrote:In the event you need to send a seperate letter for each document since some Comune in Italy may require indidividual requests to spread the work load among the clerks who research at the end of the day.

Re: Family from Sicignano
PS: I strongly suspect the correct spelling of the surname is "Conte".
There are currently seven listings under that name in the Italian telephone directory. You may want to use this sample letter to try contacting some of these people.
Another helpful tool can be found here.
This mapping tool shows that "conde" is incredibly rare in modern Italy, whereas "conte" is just as incredibly common.

Stayed the night in Sicignano last night. I did not meet anyone of the Conte family, but it was still fun seeing where my family came from.
