CRISTIANO, Pietro, Pasquale, Angela, Mary/Maria

Post by momiecat »

I am looking for information on the CRISTIANO surname.

Pietro b. abt. 1889 I think in Cosenza, Calabria Italy
Pasquale b. before 1889 in Cosenza
Angela b. before 1900 probably between 1880 and 1900 in Cosenza

Above are brothers and sister.

Mary/Maria is daughter of Pietro CRISTIANO and Rosa LOCANTO born in Sharpsburg, PA about 1915. Died around 1916 or 1917. She was 1 year old when she died. Where is she buried? Possibly in Pittsburgh.

Pasquale was a baker in Pittsburgh around 1916.

Pietro died in Youngstown, Ohio in 1918.

Cities: Cosenza, Calabria, Italy
Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Youngstown, Ohio for Pietro around 1918.

Pietro came to America around 1906 for the first time. He went back to Italy and came back with his sister Angela around 1912. Looking for ancestors of Angela who may know more about the family history. Do not know if Angela got married and/or to whom.

Looking for newspaper articles regarding murder of Pasquale in Pittsburgh around 1916. He was stabbed.

Looking for parents of Pietro, Pasquale and Angela, who were probably from Cosenza, Calabria Italy or Venice, Italy about 1860's.

Thank you very much for all the information. From the cemetery headstone at Union Cemetery in Arnold, PA, the date of birth for Pietro Cristiano is January 31, 1889. He was living in Youngstown, Ohio in 1918 before he was murdered on April 17, 1918. This really makes me curious about the WWI draft registration card you found. How could there be 2 Pietro Cristiano's both born in Cosenza and born in the same year but different months?

Pasquale Cristiano was born in Cosenza in April, 1886 and was killed on Nov. 16, 1916 I think in Pittsburgh, so the Christiana probably is not correct.

I think the Pasquale you show coming over on the Princess Irene would be a little bit too old, being 26 in 1905.

I am sorry I did not provide these further details previously but I had to do some checking of some of my paperwork and found these dates.

I really appreciate your help. Thanks again.

I found some more information:
In addition to Pietro, Pasquale and Angela, there were 3 more sisters named Pipinella (not sure if this is a nickname), Josefina and Rose. Mother I think was Maria Acri and father may have been a Vincenzo Cristiano. Rose came to America but I am not sure about the other 2 sisters -- Pipinella and Josefina.

I found this military record in Cosenza archive:
Ufficio Leva della Provincia di Cosenza, Liste di Leva della classe 1881.Registro numero 176,
atto numero 181 di pagina 57 sezione a
Pasquale Cristiano, panettiere iscritto il --/--/---- ( baker)
nato il 17/04/1881 a COSENZA ( 17 apr 1881)
da Vincenzo Cristiano e da Maria Acri
so the age in USA is wrong

Thank you again, so much. This really helps me get a clearer picture of things. I don't doubt that he was in prison. I think he was part of Lo or Il Mano Nero, unfortunately. I think my grandfather avenged his brother's death and was sent to Leavenworth, Kansas for a time. I wish I had access to newspapers in Pennsylvania and Ohio. I have some newspapers from Ohio regarding Pietro. You are correct for the above with the parents being the right parents. Thank you again. It has been hard for me with all the name changes and incorrect dates. I think they did that to either cover up things or presented incorrect identification.

If the above is correct, that Pasquale was born on April 17, then it is pretty tragic that his brother, Pietro died on his brother's birthday, April 17.

I took another look at the manifest on the Princess Irene for Pasquale Cristiano above and it looks to me that his age on arrival was 24 instead of 26. That would make him being born about 1881 which seems more in line with some of the other information you have found.

Do you know where the Wellsboro Agitator newspaper originated? If this was in 1912, that means that Pasquale was out of jail by 1912, since he was listed on the 1910 census as being in jail.

I looked at the LDS Mormon website for a Bruno Morrone/Marrone and so far could not find who he was married to. I know who Rose Cristiano was married to but I think her daughter is still alive and don't want to mention her name here.
