Filippo D'Alesio born in Salerno

Post by Dima »

Hi. Looking for info on my maternal grand-father Filippo D'Alesio. He was born in 1895 in Salerno.

I know he came to America/Pennsylvania through Ellis Island on 7/18/13. His name was changed to Philip DeLessio once here and he married Nellie George and had 3 children, one of whom is my mom. I am very interested in finding out about his parents, if there were any siblings, etc... I did find reference to a brother Rosario in the Ellis Island Records.

Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.

I am posting the manifest for reference.

p2

If you look carefully at the manifest, it says he leaves his parents in Montano Antila a town in Salerno. This may be his town of birth.

when you and Misbris sort this out you can go to this website for form letters to send to the town of origin for form letters to send, free of charge for birth, marriage and death records. Also Certificate of Family status for each member headed by the head of family at the Anagrafe Office there as well.

Misbris! Oh my!!! Yes!! That has to be the right Rosario!!! His final destination was the same as Filippo's. I did search for him....but I obviously did something wrong. Thank you very much. These manifests are sometimes difficult to read. Can anyone make out Rosario's age? It appears to be 23 or 25. And it appears that his father's name is there...I cannot read that either.

Peter! Thank you! That will be my next move.

He leaves father Antonio in Montano. He is 23.
I searched without the apostrophe.

Notice his name is spelled with 2 s's. Both spellings are common in Salerno province, so it could be either.

If you look at the manifest itself, colum 4, it indicates M for male. Also Rosario is a male name and Fillipo says he is going to brother Rosario. I think that note on the first page is an error. What do you think?
