Franceso Manetta

Post by mechartrand »

Hi,

I am working on my fiance's family tree and I am looking for more information about his italian origins.

His surname his Raglione. His grand-father Nelson (Nunzio) Raglione was married to Marcelle Manetta.

They both lived and died in Québec.

I am now working on Marcelle Manetta's branch. I only have her parents' names:

- Francesco Manetta
- Yvonne Bourgault

They were both apparently famous opera singer (in Europe I think). I have some of their songs on a disc.

Also, I was told that Yvonne Bourgault was a distant cousin of Pierre Bourgault the Quebeker Separatist Politician.

I was also told that Yvonne Bourgault was published a couple times in Ladies Home Journal.

That's everything I know.

If any one has information regarding the Manetta, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi Biff,

Thank you once more for your help!

It could be possible.

I also learned that Francesco got remarried at some point and got another daughter called: Mary Manetta.
Mary Manetta is still alive. I would say she is around 60 years old.

My fiance was under the impression that Yvonne Bourgault was French, but he was not certain. Our immediate family doesn't have much information on the subject.

Thanks again!!

Hi, Marie-Eve

In doing a little searching, I found some additional information on Francesco Manetta. Basically, just some brief news snippets. From the short articles, it appears he was a tenor with the La Scala Opera Company in Milan before coming to Canada and/or the US.

If you'd like to view the articles, go the following site and do an exact phrase search for Francesco Manetta.
http://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html

I'm still looking for additional information on Francesco and will see if I can locate anything on Yvonne.

Wow!
This as awesome!
I printed the files and added them to my archives.
It would make a lot of sense if it is him.

Thank you again!!

There are also a couple of articles and advertisements when Francesco was part of a trio called the Neapolitans on the Library of Congress Chronicling America site. Do an exact phrase search on Francesco Manetta.
http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/search/pages/

Unfortunately, I'm having a heck of a time finding any other information on him and have also not found anything on Yvonne.

Hi again,

I found a bit more information regarding Franceso Manetta and his wives asking my family about it.

Yvonne Bourgault was not named Yvonne. She is actually Yvette Bourgault.

Francesco toured the United States and sang on Broadway.

Franceso was singing with his daugther (Yvette and Francesco's daughter) Marcelle Manetta. Marcelle was born on Dec 24th 1918.

Yvette Bourgault was probably born in Quebec.
Marcelle Manetta was born in Montreal, Quebec.

Francesco remarried and his new wife was named Irene. I could not get her maiden name. They got a daughter named Mary who is still alive.

I found a military record for Franceso Manetta who was a singer.
http://search.ancestry.ca/browse/view.a ... netta&st=g

On the report, it mentions a closest relative in Italy being: Angelamaria Manetta... or something similar.

That's what I have for now.

Thanks again!

Hi,

Wow! Thank you so much for all this information!
I reviewed the documents and it seems to make sense.
I will have to dig a bit more to find more information regarding the first wife ans daughter.

One person in my family was talking about a Lily, being Mary's sister.
I don't know if it would be Lilian or if it is a girl born later.
I will look into that.

My husband's father gave me a CD with a couple songs from Francesco Manetta, but it did not include the songs you sent me. So, thank you so much for this precious Ad-on to my collection.

Thanks again!

Hi Marie-Eve,
MAYBE I found some info abt the uncle of Francesco Manetta ( or uncle of Angelina); the uncle G. Arcaris in Chicago, maybe it was:

Gaetano Arcaris born in Picinisco ( Frosinone province; that matching with the birthplace of Angelina born in Belmonte Castello, no far from Picinisco http://maps.google.it/maps?hl=it&ie=UTF ... loc=A&sa=X

so it is possible that the Francesco's parents coming from Picinisco also)

ACTOR profession;
here the naturalization:

FIRST NAME LAST NAME OCCUPATION
GAETANO ARCARIS ACTOR

BIRTH CITY BIRTH COUNTRY BIRTH DATE
PICINISCO ITALY 9/26/1854

CURRENT ADDRESS CURRENT CITY
226 GRAND BLVD. BROOKFIELD

DEPARTURE LOCATION ARRIVAL DATE DECLARATION DATE
LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND 10/14/1889 4/10/1918
abt Lillian, it is possible that Lillian was Lily...
regards,

hello,

I found this old thread and it is my grandfather that you are looking for information on. My mother is Lilly Manetta, I would love to get in touch with you. Is it possible to email this person who had the inquiry?

Francesco Manetta was associated with the Milan Opera and moved to Montreal where he had a Vocal Studio on St. Catherine St in Montreal. My grandfather Bert Eason was one of his pupils and went on to participate in over 240 concerts in Montreal as a singer, comedian and master of ceremonies during the great depression. I have just finished writing a book about Bert. There are numerous articles in the Montreal Gazette about both Francesco and his wife who were both very active in concerts in Montreal in the 1920s to 1940s I believe. There is a newspaper photo of Franceso in the Montreal Gazette. If you happened to have a high resolution photo of Franceso I woulxd consider including it in my book. I still have the handwritten notes of my grandfather Bert's lessons with Franceso which covered over 28 classes. Hope this info helps.

Cheers
