Buccellato

Post by lb1018 »

Hi, I am looking for info on my grandparent, Leonardo and Vincenza. They were born in Castellammare del golf and passed away about 1960. I have no information on them and I am trying to make a family tree. Does anyone have any ideas

Hello lb1018, and welcome to the forum! :-)

Do you have birthdates for either of these grandparents? Where did they live? and die? Was it also in Castellammare del Golfo?

There are many here who can help in your research. The more information you provide as clues, the better to assist.

My dad Giovanni Buccellato was born 8/13/1916. I am not sure when my grandparents were born. I know my grandparents died around 1960 or 1961 and bother were about 84, so they had to be born around 1875 till 1880. They lived in castellammare del golfo their whole lives. Thanks T.

Since your grandparents lived and died in Castellammare del Golfo, you can write directly to the commune for their birth and marriage records. I would start by requesting your father's birth record from the comune (town) since you know his parents' names, and his date of birth. You can request their birth and marriage records along with Giovanni's birth record. The request should be made in Italian. Here is a link to help with the process and another providing form letters in Italian.

Found an interesting manifest for a family from Castellammare, Sicily arriving NY on SS Patria, 24 January 1921, to join husband/father Leonardo Bucellato.

Mother: Maria Asaro, 38, leaving in Castellammare a sister Francesca
children:
Vita (f) 14
Maria (f) 11
Vincenzo (m) 9
Giovanna (f) 7 (this could be Giovnanni?)
Andrea (m) 4

Hi T,

My grandparents never came to the US. My father came to the US in 1956. My granmother's name was Vincenza Giordano.

Thanks,

You can also view the films at the local Family History Center run by the Mormons. They have extensive microfilms of civil records which can be rented for a small fee and viewed at their center.
Go to this site, scroll down and put in your zip to find the nearest center.

www.familysearch.org

They have Civil, Church and Census records for Castellammare del Golfo

Civil records (births (nati), deaths (morti), marriages (matrimoni)) are available for 1820-1910

You must locate the nearest FHC by using the above link. You can only order the film by going to the center, AND you must view the film THERE using their microfilm readers. Fee is about $5.50 for a one month rental.

The records are in Italian.
This link may help acquaint you with the Italian civil records, and the handwriting.

If you have difficulty reading/translating them, just post them here and someone will help you.
