Miresse & Zeppa Families-Montefalcone-Cemetery/Church In

Post by smaress »

I would like to know if there is a local cemetery in or near Montefalcone (BN), and if so whether there may be any records of burials for my Miresse and Zeppa ancestors. Also, I would also be interesting in knowing if anyone local to the area might be able to locate and photograph gravestones for my known ancestors. Another area I would also like to explore is to identify any Roman Catholic Church serving the village, and if there is a way to contact the church. I would appreciate any thoughts anyone may have.
Thank you.

phone 0824 969025

This is the first complete address for this church which is from the Italian yellow pages phonebook.

Headstones are few and far between in southern italian cemeteries, particularly for smaller towns where land is scarce and usually occupies the highest part of town surrounded by pine trees as you no doubt have noticed in pictures. The usual burial practice is internment in a wall or below ground for 20 years or so and then the remains are collected and deposited into a comunal pit to be recycled. This may well be the case for Montefalcone cemetery. The cemeteries are usually church owned property. =Peter=

Here's another church address you may need-
S. Maria Assunta e Ss. Pietro e Paolo di Montefalcone di Valfortore (BN)
Via S. Maria
82025, Montefalcone di Valfortore, (BN)

from the following website:

The church may not have a resident priest (there is no telephone which is an indication) so records may have been moved elsewhere. =Peter=

Parrocchia S. Maria Assunta E Ss. Pietro E Paolo
82025 Montefalcone Di Val Fortore (BN)
22, VIA FIGLIOLA
tel: 0824 969025

Actually, Peter, there is a phone number in the current Italian yellow pages. The listing I previously posted for this parish was from a website about Italian parishes and, on that website, there was no phone number for the parish.

Chiesa del Rosario P/zza Medaglia D'Oro
Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta Via Santa Maria

These are the only two parishes listed in the current Italian yellow pages.

To be on the safe side send an e-mail to the "segretaria@diocesibenevento.it" and if no answer send same e-mail to
"arcidiocesi@diocesidibenevento.it" as an alternative requesting location of records or whatever other information you may be seeking. =Peter=
