Looking for Info on 2 GGFs who Worked in USA

Post by Lili2 »

Hi A while back I found out that 2 of my great grand fathers went to America to work (seperately). Im not sure how long they lived there but I found the Ellis Island record for one of them. They both returned to Sicily after a few years. Any info that can be found about them or Giuseppe Spina's sons would be much appreciated. Maybe there is some census info?

Giuseppe Spina
B 1867 in Fiumefreddo di Sicilia
I think I found his Ellis Island record for 11 April 1909.
His sons went to the USA to live.
Carmelo Spina B1896
Ignazio Spina B1893

Domenico Cucinotta
B 1866 Cumia Messina Sicily
Went to the USA c1908
Domenico apparently injured his foot ( a work injury?) in the US and returned to Sicily initially unable to walk and in time was left with a permanent limp.

Thanks for your interest, Lili
My family are from Sicily: Fiumefreddo, Ficarra, Giampilieri, Cumia, Messina and Carmela Zagami,Argentina.

Thanks for your help Tessa. Im not certain though that this is my GGF Domenico Cucinotta. He didnt have any sons of that name and none of his children ever lived in NY. If it is my GGF maybe Santo and Mariano were cousins of his?

Hi Lili,

Here is a manifest for Carmelo Spina, 17, arriving Philadelphia Sept 1913, leaving father Giuseppe in Fiumefreddo, going to brother Ignazio in Philadelphia (looks like 967 So. 8th St.)

If the above is the correct Carmelo Spina, then this is his WWI Registration Card.

edit: It's very interesting that Giuseppe was traveling at the same time on another vessel. They arrived in NY one day apart, with different destinations.

Thanks Tessa, for your time. I plan to have a good look at the links and put it all together.
Re Domenico Cucinotta's children he had 5: Giuseppe B1893, Carmela B1904, Pasquale B1908, Maria and Domenica.
I can check but my mother said none of her aunts & uncles left Cumia, Messina, Sicilia. The furthest they went was Messina to live.

Re Giuseppe Spina and his sons Im in contact with their descendants in the US but like me they dont have access to the US Census etc.

Thank you so much!
My family are from Sicily: Fiumefreddo, Ficarra, Giampilieri, Cumia, Messina and Carmela Zagami,Argentina.

Hi Joann,
My GGF's were:
Domenico Cucinotta B1866
Giuseppe Spina B1867
They went to the USA to work but returned to Italy.

Giuseppe Spina's sons were:
Ignazio Spina B 1893
Carmelo Spina B 1896
They both emigrated to the US permanently.

Ive never used this website so dont know what info may be found.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
