Ideas on locating relative

Post by dmt1955 »

I am hoping for suggestions to locate this relative.

She is my maternal grandmother's sister, who was sent to a convent as a young girl. i know her first and last name, city and year of birth, but i do not know the order she went into or the year.

the other info i have is that she left the order as an adult woman (year unknown) and i know the city and approx. year she died.

any thoughts on how i might find more info on her? maybe through the religious community(s)?

thanks,
donna

tessa,
thank you for your welcome and quick reply.

this is the information i have. the dates are approximate. the last name may be a variation in spelling.

angela pucaro
born circa 1920 in ariana di puglia
mother died in childbirth or shortly thereafter.

angela's sister, guissepina, is my grandmother. guissepina came to US in 1921/1922, arriving in port of boston, mass.

angela was sent to convent in her early teens, i believe. unsure when, where, or which order.

angela died in rome circa 1974. after having left the order, she fell upon hard times and i believe she died homeless -- or something similarly sad.

any direction / ideas / assistance is most appreciated.

thanks,
donna

Hello,

why don't you contact the town of Ariano Irpinio, the new name of Ariano di Puglia.

Here's the adress of the mayor:

Comune di Ariano Irpino
Piazza Plebiscito

Just curious here, how old was Giuseppina (note: "iu", not "ui") when she emigrated to the US? I would think not much more than 10-15 since her sister was just born a year or two earlier. Did she come to the US alone, with her father, or another relative? Who might Angela have stayed behind with?

I assume there is absolutely no doubt that Angela remained in Italy?

A quick search on ancestry . com did not turn up a manifest for Giuseppina. In fact, there are only a few Pucaro's in total. THe name does not seem to exist at all in modern Italy...

I am very appreciative for all of your efforts and suggestions. I will speak with older family members to double check dates and spellings.
Thank you again.
