Post by onesong »

Hi I am new so happy to find this site thank you so much!

My Greatgrandpa is Emanuele Campodonico he married Mary or MAria Panasco in the late 1800's sorry no date but must be 1890 or so! They were from Genoa Italy! They came to USA and settled in California ! I believe around 1900 ! AGAIn not so sure! My Grandfather was Peter or Pietro Charles, his siblings were Rose, Joyce, Frank or Francisco, Fred , there were like 8 or more ! Emanuele died here in 1906 at around i his 40's! Anyways can anyone please help me find any info! ANy ? feel free!

I was hoping for maybe church records for marriage ! Birth certificates on any of them ! I was told by my Father that my gran[a and his silings were born in the US ! YET I can not find any birth records ! I told my MOM and she said they were born in Italy! Or maybe there are records for them imigrating to USA ? SHip ?

Pietro was born September 29, 1900

thanks again Regina!

Considering that Emanuele did emigrate on 1876 and his wife on 1884, it's possible they got marriage in California... :?:

Possible 1884 arrival manifest for Maria Pinasco, note she was travelling with a Campodonico family, unfortunately being an early arrival manifest no place of birth is listed.... no doubt that both Campodonico and Pinasco are ligurian lastnames.

Possible arrival dates for Emanuele Campodonico?

from: http://www.castlegarden.org/quick_searc ... id=2485685

U CAMPODONNICO
First Name (Unknown)
Relative left behind
Last Name Campodonnico
Name of relative left behind
Occupation Musician
Address of relative left behind
Age 23
Ticket Paid By
Sex Male
Ship: Saint Laurent
Arrived 31 July 1879
In the USWhere
Country Switzerland
Going to someone in the US
Port of departure Havre
Relationship to that someone in the US
Place of last residence Geneva
Name of relative in the US
PROVINCE OF LAST RESIDENCE not known
City or village of destination San Francisco

Country of origin is listed as Switzerland but I believe it was an error because, leaving from Le Havre (France) the french name for Genova is Genes, while the french for Ginevra (Switzerland) is Geneve... maybe someone confused the two towns

ok so 4th try !!!

Thank you Laura!

I did some research and found that it ispossible My Greatgrandpa parenst names were Francisco and Julia Campodonico! I have his death cert and it said father's name Francisco mother unk! His first son's name was Frank ! First daughter Julia! 2nd son Joseph and 2nd daughter Rose! SO if this is Italian tradition then Maria's parents names may have been Joseph and Rosina or Rose Pinasco!

Thanks so much! I will write more aft I figure out my posts are being posted !!

jajajaj YAYYYY !!

OK I figured out!

Thanks Laura!! YOu did a a superb job ! Yes Campidonica is a mispelling that was carried on and YES my gramps and siblings shortened their names to Camp! Wow you are really good!!

Canyou please tell me what are the names of teh Campodonicos that Mary Pinasco traveled over to the USA with ?

The U Campo not sure of but it's interesting about being a musician as my gramps said they all were in the famliy! My gramps played the accordion his brother Fred was Bugle boy in the US ARmy duirng the war > His sister marie played the Piano and was a teacher and played for churches! I am a huge music lover ! I use to be a professional actress! I did stage and film! ALso use to have a Karaoke business LOL!

ANywasy Iwould love to get tothe Italy family roots as we are going over there this fall and would love to find some family! Not many of my grampas siblings had children!

SO it's possible that mygreat great granparenst names were Francisco and Julia Campodonico and Maria's parents may be John or Gian and Rosina Pinasco! right?

thank you again hugs Regina

Regina,

you can use this site to know where your Ancestor's lastname are spreaded in the Liguria region... You'll be able to know at least the area from which they where coming from...

http://italia.indettaglio.it/eng/cognomi/cognomi.html

The civil registrations in Italy began from 1866 more or less and if you want to obtain birth certificates for them you'll need to know the exact birth place... before 1866 you have to ask to the churches....

I would advise you to collect for first all the U.S records .... for example the 1884? marriage certificate for Maria Pinasco and Emanuele Campodonico, it may have some new clues on it...

Good luck!
Laura
