Potenza records now on Ancestry. Can I get a lookup?

Post by warriorrabbit »

Got a notice from Ancestry today that they've filmed Potenza records, 1861-1938.

Unfortunately I don't have the extra-special international version, can't get to the library tomorrow, and the library is closed on Monday. And of course you know I want to look it up now, now, now.

Can anyone look and see if they've got anything for:

Carmine Pascale, born circa 1890 in Satriano di Lucania.

Married Gilda de Rosa, don't know when, but the first child I know anything about was born ca 1922 (Maria). Son Valerio born ca 1923.

Mother's name was, of course, Maria.

He went to the University of Naples, getting an MD in 1913, so he might also have records in Naples (like maybe his marriage record).

Thank you, thank you.

Wow, that's awesome, thanks. Although I'm confused, as I really thought his mom's name was Maria. That's what his daughter's name is, and that's what he said on the manifest coming over (SS Lapland, 19 Apr 1924).

This is (or... this could be) my cousin's father, and her parents divorced when she was young and he supposedly returned to Italy, so we really don't know that much. The manifest and one census are all we've got.

Hmmmm, the plot thickens.

On another note, boy those images are fantastic compared to what the Sicilian microfilms look like. Holy cow.

Thanks!

ahhhhhhhhhhh; your Carmine was born in 1889, 26 May from Valerio PASCALE proprietor and Maria ROMANO noblewoman; the child was named: Carmine, Francesco, Giuseppe, Rocco, Serafino PASCALE and because all first names are separated by commas, the first name valid is Carmine

Hi,

Well, I don't know his exact birthday, but he was 35 in April 1924 (manifest) and he was 40 on the 1930 census. So circa 1890, maybe 1889.

But looking at the manifest again reminded me that I know his mom's full name -- Maria Romana.

He has 5 names?! Wow.

My cousin is going to be very happy to see this. Although what she really wants to do is find the two half-siblings she has, if they're still alive.

This is awesome! Thanks.

I just checked this new archive on ancestry. It looks great, but it doesn't look like you can search by name, just by town. Am I missing something? I have ancestry in Vietri and would love to look up those names. Any ideas or do you have to search page by page?

in this other thread I explained as to search
http://www.italiangenealogy.tardio.com/ ... tenza.html
so you must search in Potenza database, choose Potenza province, choose Vietri di Potenza locality and after you can search in the year index ( if births=Nascite; marriages=Matrimoni; deaths= Morti)
when you find the name that you are searching for, you read the act number, and by that searching in:
birth acts=Atti di Nascita;
marriage acts=Atti di Matrimonio;
death acts= Atti di Morte
of year and by number act you can find what you are searching for....
