Lorusso Family

Post by rp76226 »

Trying to find the birth dates and World War I military recods of three Lorusso brothers - Domenico, Vito, and Evangelista (born sept 18, 1900) from Altamura, Bari, Italy. Their parents were Michelle Lorusso born August 13, 1858 and Teresa Ninivaggi, born December 1, 1858. Also did either Domenico or Vito emigrate to America?

Given that you have the parent's names and birthdates and can offer a reasonable guess as to the birth years of the brothers, I would suggest you write to Altamura and request their birth records.

See this thread and these sites for info on how to do that, and write to the address below.

Thank you for that information. I previously wrote with no response to Piazza Municipio, 1 - 70022 Altamura - ITALY, an address I got from this URL http://en.comuni-italiani.it/index.html

I think "Piazza Municipio" is a generic address whick works for all comunes throughout Italy, so I don't think the address is the problem.

Unfortunately, there is a wide range in response times for comuni. Some reply within a few weeks, some in a few months, some (like my paternal grandparent's comune) never respond, period.

FamilySearch.org ("The Mormons") has stato civile records for Altamura on microfilm for the years 1809 - 1900. See http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... %2C++Altam++

There are lots of threads here on using the Family History Libraries; one is at http://italiangenealogy.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14436/

Also, take a look at this new "pilot" FamilySearch site: http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsea ... Id=8214138 Lots of Lorusso's from Altamura.
