Esernio - Any Information ??

Post by gmfe »

Hi :)

I'm looking for information on the Esernio family, especially in Italy - past & present.

Esernio family members that came to U.S. were from Naples (Napoli) and arrived about 1900 (+/-). They lived in Newburgh & Queens, NY.
I found several versions of spelling that seem to be related; Esena, Eserno, Isernia and others. That may be why I can't seem to find any information on ancestors or present relatives in Italy - It may be a similar but different spelling than I've seen so far. :?:

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

THANK YOU :!:

For what it is worth, I would suggest that the "Isernia" (or possibly Isernio)spelling is probably the correct, Italian, spelling and the others attempts to anglicize the spelling to match the name's pronunciation.

Isernia = ee-ZERN-ya.
Isernio = ee-ZERN-yo. Try it here: http://www.oddcast.com/home/demos/tts/tts_example.php

You can map the current usage of the name in Italy using this site, http://www.gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/genera.html

Or, check out listings in the Italian telephone directory at http://www.paginebianche.it/execute.cgi ... sernia&dv=

Ancestry . com has hundreds of listings for Isernia's who traveled to the US via boat, as does the new version of the FamilySearch.org site, http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsea ... tml#p=home

If you would care to give us some names and approximate years of birth, we might have a look and report back to you. :)
