Daltilio

Post by SAC112750 »

Looking for any information on Carmine Daltilio or the Daltilio family.
Carmine born June 13, 1887 to Michele Daltilio and Maria English/Inglish? Not sure of birth place...Foggia, Naples or Rodi Goag. Carmine immigrated to USA in early 1900's. Can anyone help!?

The types of records which might have towns of birth include naturalization records, WWI or WWII draft registration cards, social security card application, and passport applications.

I have his death certificate and it states Foggia. However, they have nothing. But that was 1887 so I don't know what kind of records they kept. I have his WWI (USA) military registration and naturalization papers and it states Naples on both. Naples finds nothing. I have also seen Rodi Goag on his passport records. Have tried the Latter Day Saints route and find nothing and I do not speak or write Italian so very difficult. I was just interested in finding the correct place. And the correct spelling of my great grandmother's last name, eith English or Inglish, I have seen it both ways. I know nothing about either family.

The problem with Foggia and Naples are that they are both towns and provinces and, on those records that you have, Foggia and Naples are probably the provinces and not the specific towns. It's just odd that there is no consistency even with the province name.

I didn't realize that they were both provinces. I thought Foggia was in the province of Puglia! That is interesting, thank you.

Did he marry in a church in the U.S.? If so, the parish might have his Italian town of birth. Even if the town name does not appear on a church marriage record, the info may still be in a parish register. I have a cousin who had to phone a parish in Manhattan when the record she received in the mail did not have the towns of birth on it. Sure enough the parish did have that info.

Yes, he married in the USA. Not sure if in a church but I will check that out. I have access to some Rochester information so I may find something there. Thanks.

Just dug out the marriage certificate, married by a judge. Birth place stated as only Italy! This is so frustrating! Thanks for all your help.

One last thing, are there any links to the town of Foggia that you could recommend? I am interested in the area, ways of life, history, etc. Happy 4th of July!

There are currently two people in the Italian white pages with the surname living in the town of Lucera in Foggia. Possibly try writing letters to these two individuals to see if there is any connection.

anagrafe@comune.lucera.fg.it (no spaces in email address)

Since you have an exact date of birth, I would try emailing this town to see if your ancestor was born there.

I am sending you a private message.

Send form letter in Italian to potential relative at
www.initaly.com/gene/mem/letter1.htm and include a self addressed envelope to encourage a REPLY.

Geography lesson: Italy has Regions (Puglia is a region) and within the region there are provinces (Foggia is capital of FOGGIA province) and towns within the provinces are COMUNE (Towns and villages) are within the provinces.

The website for Lucera Municipal Uffico di Stato Civile (vital statistics office)is located under MUNICIPIO at www.tuttitalia.it/puglia/98-lucera

www to the right is for tourist information. =Peter=
