Trying to find my Uncle
Trying to find my Uncle
Hi my uncle Judiog, Judioug, or Judyog MIRRO came to America from I think Naples at age 4. He may of arrived in 1906. I tried to locate him in the Ellis Island records, but had no luck. Could anyone help me to find him?

Re: Trying to find my Uncle
Would you consider Giuseppe Mero?
The first syllable in Giuseppe is pronounced somewhat like jew as in jewish, the 's' is pronounced like the American-English 'z'.
Mirro is a very uncommon Italian surname, so much so that I suspect it is not Italian at all. Mero, on the other hand, would be a good possibility and would be pronounced similarly to the American pronounciation of Mirro. See http://www.gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/genera.html for distribution of various names in modern Italy (type a name into the "Cognome" box.
Anway, if we consider Giuseppe Mero, then:

travelling with his brohter Salvatore, aged 2, and their mother Antonia Mangni, aged 25. What do you think?

Re: Trying to find my Uncle
Although it is rare, the name Mirro does appear in Italy in the Bari area. Mirra is much more common.

Is this record a possibility?

Two questions for you.
Are the Mirras and Mirros two separate families or just a spelling change?
Do you know what town he came from?
