Hello everyone!
I was wondering if anyone has information regarding the last names:
Peduto
di Perna
possibly from the Piaggine, Valle dell'Angelo area definitely from the province of Salerno
more specifically Barbato Peduto (born 1869) who married a Filomena di Perna (born 1870)
Barbato may have had a brother Pietro. Came to New York 1890 on ship called Victoria out of the port of Naples.
I am searching for the parents and bloodline of this pair.
Thank you!

Hello and welcome to this forum. I believe the following is death information for your ancestor:
From the NYC death index:
Peduto Barbato 70 y died June 2, 1940 Certificate #12359 Manhattan
http://www.italiangen.org/NYCDeath.stm
There is a link on the above page to order his death certificate from the NYC Municipal archives. His parents' names should be on the certificate, although the information on a death certificate is not always accurate. It is only as accurate as the knowledge of the informant who gave the information.

Thank you! This information is greatly appreciated.
Do you have access to other death notices?
I am having difficulty finding the location of my great grandparents on the 1900 census in New York City. By 1910 they were on Sullivan Street...1920 they moved one block over to Thompson Street. But since the transcription on the 1900 census doesn't seem to be so accurate, I have been searching for the ward of Manhattan that covered 226-ish Sullivan Street. The names have been butchered in the past but usually I can recognize them when I scan the pages.
The person I am curious about is their son Pietro Antonio Peduto born in 1890. I am not sure if he survived adulthood, since he doesn't pop up on the 1910 census. They had another son Pietro with the same name years later...but this is a different individual.
Also cannot find record of Giuseppa Peduto another sibling that was on the 1910 census...is Josie a possible nickname for Giuseppa?
Thank you!

Re: Piaggine, Valle dell'Angelo names Peduto, di Perna
Peduto Pietro 11 m June 26 1891 certificate #22033 Manhattan
This is the only Pietro in the NYC death index with the surname spelled correctly. I can't say for sure if he is yours. You can search the index yourself by going to the following website:
http://www.italiangen.org/NYCDeath.stm
There are also other NYC vital records indexes on this website.
And to answer your question about Josie being a nickname for Giuseppa, the answer is yes. Giuseppa in English is Josephine, so Josie is definitely a nicikname.

In addition to what Peg has told you...From the NYC death index:

You will find a Social Security # on his death certificate if he had one. You can use that number to request his SS application which will have his parents' names and his place of birth...

This may be the Pietro Peduto that is on the 1890 manifest with Barbato and Filomena...maestra36 wrote:Peduto Pietro 11 m June 26 1891 certificate #22033 Manhattan
Although Ancestry transcribed his age as 20-1/2...the manifest actually has a dash in year column, and a 2 in the months column.
Manifest - For Reference...

Date of birth probably July/August 1890...traveling in Nov. 1890...
His death certificate will have his place of birth...

Re: Piaggine, Valle dell'Angelo names Peduto, di Perna
Yes that is the correct census (yes the butchered the name somehow but it is the same family Peduto...)
I have tried hunting for them on the 1900 census Filomena, Barbato, Giovannina, Angelina and Giuseppa should be somewhere on that census
My approach has been to try to find the ward and street and maybe by chance they lived on Sullivan Street in 1900. I have also tried hunting the family combination without the last name incase there is another spelling
I even tried some nicknames like Jennie, Archangela, Josie, Jospehine...
no luck just yet...
