Pizzirusso family from Sant' Angelo dei lombardi

Post by CarlaGrillo91 »

I'm desperate to find out some information about my mother's family history. All I know is her parents are Filomena and Pasquale Pizzirusso, and his father's name was Rocco. If anyone has any information, such as church records, please let me know.
Thanks,
Carla Grillo

Hello and welcome to the forum-
Carla, did your grandparents or great grandfather come to the United States? if so, where did they live-what state or city? Do you have even an estimated year of birth for your grandparents? was your mother born here in the U.S.? any additional details will be helpful to the researchers here on the forum.
Thanks
Peg

Thank you =]
My grandmother was born in 1944/45 and my grandfather was born 1935/36. My grandfather has relatives living in the U.S but we live in Melbourne, Australia. They came in 1981 after an earthquake in their town. My grandmother's maiden name is Rafaniello. And her father's name was also Rocco. My grandmother's dad and grandfather's dad were both soldiers in WWII.

Okay, here is my logic.

1981 Italian earthquake centered in Campania region of Italy. Name Pizzirusso appears in 4 towns in Campania. Name Rafaniello appears in two of those towns. I think it is likely that your family came from either Lioni or Sant' Angelo dei Lombardi. Interestingly these towns are adjacent to each other in the province of Avellino.

I am sorry. I did not even notice your topic heading. :?

I posted the address for Sant'Angelo above. You can write for information but, I don't know what the laws are regarding living or recently deceased persons. One of our Italian members will be able to help you with that.

The town records were lost in that earthquake. The people living in town reconstructed their records so you may find that of your Grandparents in the town office since they emigrated after the 'quake. The generation before that would only have records if they were alive after the 'quake.
Anything before 1877 is on film at the LDS, but you have to arrive at that year first. Good luck.

Gee how interesting. So I'm assuming it's going to be hard to get records?

LDS is the Mormon Church, and they have microfilmed records around the world.

They have Family History Centers (also around the world) which you can visit to order/rent and view these microfilms.

They have films available for Lioni and Sant'Angelo from 1809-1910

Thanks so much T. I will definitely check that out.

Robert that's fantastic! I know that we have relatives in New York. I'm from Melbourne, Australia though. What is your wife's last name? My mum/nonni might know of her family?

Carla
My mother in law's name is Domenica Contino, she is 83 years old. My father in law is Gennaro Sarni, he would of been 81, he passed away 2 years ago. We know a Michael Pizzirusso who owns a landscaping business named rainbow nursery. It is in Oceanside, New York, he is about 70 years old. Does your mom have any brothers or sisters? what are there first names and where do they live? I will be seeing my mother in law sometime today, I will see if I can find out anything for you.
