Ernesta Otero

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Ernesta Otero

Post by maestra36 »

There is an Ernesta Otero listed on ancestry.com under the category of All New York Passenger Lists, 1820 to 1957. Could someone please upload a copy of the passenger list to the forum for me?

Thanks.

Hi T,
Thanks for uploading that information, T, but that can't be her. First of all, her name was Ernesta Autera (Italian)-I did a phonetic search on ancestry under the passenger lists from 1820 to 1857 and found only one Ernesta Otero, so I thought it could be her. She was born in 1909 in NY. She went to live in Stigliano (since 1926 Stigliano has been in Matera Province) but she came back to NY in 1927 with an aunt, whose name I don't know. So she should be a 1927 arrival from the town of Stigliano. Does that info help at all? She would have been 16 at the time. She married a man from that town in the Bronx NY in 1928, in a civil ceremony, and in 1929 in a church wedding. His name was Giuseppe Pasciucco, and he was from the town of Stigliano.

This is for a cousin of mine, so if you can find it easily, I appreciate it. If not, don't go nuts with this.

Thanks, T.

Hi Peg,

Here's a possibility...Anastasia Autera, born in NY on Oct 14, 1909, lists address in US as Morris Park Ave, Bronx, arriving NY, April 1927 from port of Naples (no origination other than that)on the SS Conte Biancamano

I have the marriage info, as well as the obit for Joseph who was killed by a car in Yonkers, NY in 1976. The obit gave the date of their church marriage as well.

T, the birthday is correct, so that must be the correct manifest. The only other thing would be to find a 1930 census for them.

Thanks you so much for finding this. You are amazing.

I've been searching for the 1930 census, but no luck so far.

Glad to hear you have the obit, SSDI, etc.
DOB for Giuseppe?

Happy to help!

No 1930 census yet, but found (which you may already have) Giuseppe's manifest. Arriving 1921 from Stigliano.

Found two more manifests for "Giuseppe Pasciucco" from Stigliano...all with different DOB... :-?

Supposedly though, Joseph Pasciucco went back to Stigliano for a while in 1948, so it is possible that there is a more recent manifest with him coming back to NY.

I just have no idea how long he stayed there when he made the 1948 trip.
