Hello and welcome to the forum, Phil

You can search the Italian white pages for possible relatives and then send letters to them in Italian and not English.

http://www.paginebianche.it/index_en.html

A quick search of the surname yielded 5 results for the surname Filippi, but none for the surname as you have spelled it. You can play with various spellings of the surname yourself to see if there is anyone you would like to contact.

To help you write a letter in Italian, you can refer to the following website:

Hi Phil! :-)

Was George born in US or Italy? Approx. year of birth?

Names of children of George and Nellie?

Did Vincenzo (Defillippis?) immigrate?

I feel quite sure that the original spelling of Defillippis is De Filippis or, but less likely, Defilippis. In Marche you can find 5 De Filippis in the general phone directory. No Defilippis. It is not a common surname so if you have any family left in Italy it shouldn't be too difficult to find out.
Cheers.

George was born in Italy and they are from the town of Ancona. He was a marble worker and moved to the states with his wife Nellie, Mother-In-Law Anna Costello, and children Dominic. His other children were born in the states.

Right. That is the recording for the family in the US, if you are looking for some italian branch of it I just suggest you to try De Filippis, because Defillippis sounds too odd to be the real name.
Let's say: my great grand uncle arrived in the US from a place called Ferriere and the officer registered him coming from Berjiere... ;-P

Well I did some more talking with my family and I was wrong. Anconca is where they got on the ship to come to the states. My great grandfather worked at the Vadican as a marble statue repair man.

well, no doubt that your George was no born in Ancona... also no doubt that George was no the true italian first name; the italian name was: Giacinto DE FILIPPIS, this is the right spelling; the wife Nellie, really was the italian name: Natalina Ambroselli; the her mother was Anna and the Anna maiden name maybe was Castelli.

Natalina Ambroselli( Nellie) came in USA in 1912, coming from Lenola town, currently in Latina province, IT and joining at mother Anna Castelli in Chicago, Cook, IL

pag 2

Also Giacinto De Filippis came from same town; the problem is that I found the WWI and WWII draft card abt a Giacinto De Filippis in Chicago, but both the records show a different birthdate; however I believe that the right is abt this Giacinto De Filippis:
U.S. World War II Draft Registration Cards, 1942 about Giacinto DeFillippisi
Name: Giacinto DeFillippisi
Birth Date: 18 Oct 1892
Birth Place: Lenola
Residence: Chicago, Illinois
Race: White
Roll: 30955_165759
Age:

Occupation:

Nearest Relative: Jim De Filippis;
http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/3650 ... is1942.jpg

Well Jim De Filippis was neighbor on the 1920 census( you can see the image of 1920 census in my previous post);

Giacinto working at International Marble Company in Chicago; also in 1930 census the work was marble polisher:

the other military record, show a different birthdate:
NAME: Josinto D Fillipps
BIRTH: 5 Aug 1890
BIRTH: Italy
RESIDENCE: Chicago, Cook, Illinois
OTHER: Chicago City

married and with 2 children; in effects in 1920 Giacinto/George have 2 children: Domenick and Yolanda. So I know not what is the true birthdate...

Domenick, really Domenico was born in 1913:
Name: Domenico Defilippis
Birth Date: 13 Aug 1913
Birthplace:
Gender: Male
Race:
Father's Name: Giacinto Defilippis

abt Giacinto/George arrival, from a first shor search, here a record:
