Need help in finding birthplace of Caterina Peroni

Post by casassa »

I know Caterina was born Sept. 6, 1862 in Italy and left for US in November 1888 but ship manifest just states place or origin, Italy. I am unable to find birthplace and other family members in Italy . So this is where I am in my family search. I think she came from nothern Italy because she married Pietro Casassa from Chiaves, Italy Where do I go from here? There are thousands of Peroni in Italy!!!!
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Have you collected all available documents in the U.S. to look for clues? Do you have the death certificate? Have you checked for cemetry records and obits? Do you have a record from the church? If it was and Italian Catholic church the priest may have noted where in Italy she was from. Also, don't forget to research siblings. Perhaps one of them will note the exact town on a birth, marriage, death record or obit.

Do you have any old letters or postcards from Italy?

Don't give up. Sometimes the search isn't easy, but when you find the answer its wonderful.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm new at this and not sure where to look. Death notice did not give any info, no letters or postcards, not sure if she had siblings in US and children have all passed away, but will check other resources you mentioned. Thanks again.

Thank you again for the information in the new posts. It is beginning to fill in missing pieces in my search. Maria Caterina sounds correct because my aunts were named Catherine Marie and Frances Marie. I wasn't sure where the Marie came in. Now I can send for birth records.

Sincerely,
Casassa

Great find on the passenger manifests mfjp.

Casassa, If you want to look, there is microfilm records available for CHIALAMBERTO at the LDS Family History Center. It costs about $3.50 to rent a roll of microfilm for a month. Here is the link:
