Immigration Records Detroit 1920

Post by bene2950 »

I have my grandfather's declaration of intention and it shows he emigrated from Havre, France to Detroit, MI on the ship RY Dec. 7, 1920. His name is Domenico Benedetti. Where can I locate the ship passenger list? I have tried several web sites and one shows microfilm Record Group 85 Roll #4. How do I go about locating the microfilm?

Those penciled-in notations above and to the right of his name (line 6, by the way) are a good indication that he filed a Declaration of Intention (to become a US citizen) in August/September, 1935. If he followed through, he would have completed the process sometime between (roughly) 1938 and 1942.

PS: Is that Domenico's brother, Giuseppe, on line 12? They seem to have the same residence and same father...

He filed in 1936 but died before he became a citizen. My father was born in 1926 so it looks good. Thanks again.

I checked line 12. Giuseppe is probably his first cousin as his father's name was Giuseppe which was Domenico's uncle. Thanks for finding that information. I have his family tree traced to 1600.
