I think the correct birth place was RIONERO in Vulture - Potenza Province - Basilicata region....

Considering that he stated on the 1920 census that he did immigrate on 1909 this could have been his arrival in the U.S.:

June 22, 1909:

Donato Di Pierro, age 19, single, farmlabourer, from Rionero - Potenza, leaving in Italy his father Michele Arcangelo in Rionero, going to Lawrence MA to join his friend Michele Formicoia.
Note the naturalization mark on his line on the arrival manifest, the first number 1 is the District number of INS - Naturalization Office of Boston MA, New Haven CT
