Ferrari / Della Torre family in Tirano

Post by fezfez »

Hi there,
does anyone have any information on the Ferrari / Della Torre families from Tirano. I am a decendent of Carlo Ferrari (b: 1842 Madonna di Tirano)who immigrated to Victoria, Australia in 1870.
His father was Peter Ferrari (b: 1807 Madonna di Tirano) His mother was Magdelana della Torre ( d: 1844 Madonna di Tirano}
I believe his father was either a farmer or a stone mason.
:D

Hi Carolyn

I think I am a first cousin once removed, I think your parents were Brian and Val and I think I met you once or twice when you were young. Brian was my first cousin.

I was gas-bagging about my medium-long term aim to be at the World Masters Games in 2013 (Turin), and my intention to then travel up Tirano and do some searching and so on.... I was recounting some Ferrari family stuff - based on my very imperfect "knowledge", and my wife suggested I look on this site...

You have some facts, and Princess Bubbles has added some good detail - stuff I didn't know - I think our mutual grandmother was Ellen Martha.

Not sure where you got your facts from - however there is a family history (Swift - Ferrari) written by Edna's (Irene Edna above)daughter Margaret.... I have seen it (but don't have a copy) and I think one of my siblings (Andrew, Rodney, Rosalind) has a copy. Have you a copy of this or??

I think there are even some direct descendents (of Carlo) who were born in Tirano to a first wife.

Anyhow - very happy to compare notes

Hi Ian,

yes I am Brian and Vals daughter.
Sorry I have not replied much sooner- I have been out of the ancestry loop for a while- I get to it when I can.

I have borrowed a copy of a book from my brother Robert, where I have taken a few facts from....I must find the box that it is in and look at it again.

I have a family Tree up on ancestry.com.au thought that I would try another avenue as I do not seem to be able to access any direct Italian genealogy relating to our Ferrari's.

There is mention of a couple of brothers Bernado and Peter which I have noted but I have not much on them at all.

Yes I would love to go to Tirano one day also.

Yes it would be good to compare notes and I will certainly post anything more that I find along my way.
