Information on Guiseppe Griffo or Crifo
I am looking for information on my grandfather, Giuseppe Griffo. I am not sure, but I think he was from Patti, Sicily. He was born in 1895 and died in 1967 in the U.S.
Papers I have show that his last name in Italy was Crifo and was some how changed to Griffo. He became a U.S. citizen on Dec. 2, 1931. I am not sure to look up Crifo or Griffo.
He was married to Maria Incognito. I believe he had a brother Anthony.
If you have any information, I would be most grateful.

What information do you have. The link says "forbidden" and there is nothing there. I assume he was from Patti Sicily because that is were my grandmother and greatgrandmother were from, however, he could be from a different area of Sicily. He resided in Hoboken, NJ.

Re: Information on Guiseppe Griffo or Crifo
My grandfather Joseph (Giuseppe) Griffo (Crifo) settled in Hoboken, NJ. He died in a Fair Lawn, NJ hospital. I have his certificate of citizenship. It is dated December 17, 1931, Jersey City, NJ. What else do you need from that document. As far as papers that contain the name Giuseppe Crifo, I have one that is titled "Comune De Patti. L'ufficiale dello Stato Civilo de Comune di Patti Visto l'atto de Nascita di N 232 del 13 Luglio 1884 de Crifo Giuseppe de....de Angela Aprile. (I don't speak or write Italian) so I don't know exactly what certificate it is. Could Angela Aprile be his mother? I really want to say thank you to all for your help. I am very grateful for the time you are taking for this request. Again, I thank you from the bottom of my hear.
It is hoped that the research I am doing helps to discover, preserve and celebrate my family history.

Re: Information on Guiseppe Griffo or Crifo
I do know he had a brother Anthony and I believe there is a Pietro, too. I don't know if Pietro is a brother, cousin or maybe his father.
Re: Information on Guiseppe Griffo or Crifo
Hi,
the right surname spelling is Crifò ( with accent) and I believe that your Giuseppe Crifò coming from Patti emigrated in USA in 1906, final destination Hoboken, NJ, joining at cousin Antonio Buongiovanni:
New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
about Guiseppe Crifo Name: Guiseppe Crifo
Arrival Date: 7 Jun 1906
Birth Year: abt 1894
Age: 12
Gender: Male
Ethnicity/RaceÂ/Nationality: Italian (South) (Italian)
Port of Departure: Napoli
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Citta di Genova

Re: Information on Guiseppe Griffo or Crifo
thanks Valarie; really Giuseppe Crifò ( with accent) was born in Patti on 13 July 1884, son of Antonio Crifò and of Angela Aprile. The certificate was issue for to certify the status of unmarried man; the certificate date : 24 jan 1912; the fee was unpayed because Giuseppe had a certificate of poverty, and it relayed by Police ( P. S.= Pubblica Sicurezza)... at this point, knowing the birthdate we must search the arrival of a Giuseppe Crifò born in Patti in 1884.
Thanks Valarie,
Hugs,

Re: Information on Guiseppe Griffo or Crifo
Yes, this is my grandfather. He did live in Parsippany, NJ. Still can't find a record of his coming to America. Thank you again, for all your help with the translation and information. I am working on a family tree and this helps me so much.
