Variations in given names

Post by lcafarel »

Is there a handy online resource that lists possible variations and translations of Italian given names?

Also, is Roque an Italian given name? I find it listed in some sources as Spanish.

Thanks!

Just found the references on names on this site. My searches on the site didn't find it, but a Google search did.

Also, names - particularly of children - are often informally amended with suffixes such as -ina, -ucci, -etto, etc. Many times these stick into adulthood; sometimes they appear in birth records.

See http://italian.about.com/cs/grammar/ht/usesuffixes.htm for more info.

vj,

Thank you thank you for that web page. I lost it when Ken's Geocities page disappeared. Now i have put it in my favorites again.

Mildred and Millie were common American names for Carmela.
