Looking for Info on Paternal Granfather Santeuro/Santersiro

Post by HarmonyNY »

I've been trying to find out info on my Father's family. I was told my Grandfather died when my father was 2yrs old (around 1933). My Grandfather's name was Frank Santersiro. My Father was Alfred. I've done some research and found a US census record which I think may include my Grandfather (at the age of 8) but hit a dead end. The records info:

***(alternate name for this record SANTERSIRO)

Dunmore Ward 2, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania -302 Smith Street

Augusto Santeuro 48 - Year of immigration 1891- widowed -miner
William Santeuro 18
Mamie Santeuro 16
Milly Santeuro 14
Charlie Santeuro 12
Tony Santeuro 10
Frank Santeuro 8

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello and welcome to the forum-

I suspect that the original spelling of the surname was Santasiero, which may help you with the search.

I find the following a passenger list of interest. I can't say this is your ancestor though. The oldest son on the list is Vito. I know that in the U.S., a Vito could be called Willie, which would give you the son William.

First Name: Agostino
Last Name: Santasuro
Ethnicity: Italie
Last Place of Residence: Avegbana
Date of Arrival: Nov 07, 1895
Age at Arrival: 29y Gender: F Marital Status:
Ship of Travel: Burgundia
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0162

This Agostino is from the town of Avigliano. The wife's name is Maria Antonia (Vieca-spelling ???)

I am also wondering if the Scran which appears as the destination could be Scranton.

There are still several Santarsieros in Dunmore, and Dunmore was home for many Aviglianese immigrants in the early 1900s. I would start checking the 1900/1910/1920 census reports.

Hi suanj,

Happy you found that census. I couldn't find it earlier.

if the above family is the right family, Agostino Santarsiero was born in Avigliano on 29 July 1866, act#402, son of Vitantonio (farmer, 34 old, son of late Agostino) and of Vita Crescenzia Guglielmi..
