Tracing Family in Mazzarra Sant' Andrea

Post by frankl »

I am looking for any relatives of my father, Carmelo Livoti. He was born in 1892 and lived with his family in Mazzara. He sailed to New York around 1905 and lived in California until his death in 1950. I am planning on being in Mazzarra in Sept of this year and would like to be in contact with any relatives. Another family name that might be part of the past is Anselmo, although not sure about this.

Hello frankl! Welcome :-)

Do you mean "Mazzarra' Sant'Andrea, Messina, Sicily?"

There is one listing in the current Italian Phone book for Livoti in this town...

On the 1905 manifest for the arrival of Carmelo Livoti, his brother Giuseppe, and sister Grazia... Their mother's name is Giovanina Anselmo... I would say that "Anselmo" is DEFINTELY part of the past! :-)

The last place of residence is listed as Castroreale (about 11 km to the east)

Tessa78:

Bingo! This should really help. When I looked up Livoti in the phone listings for Castroreale I found one listing. I will contact that one also.

Many thanks for your help.

Tessa:

One Anselmo noted, but in another town. Have also learned of a cousin's family of my fathers who lives in NY. Will obtain contact # and talk with them also.
