Location of comune?

Post by lilbees »

Has anyone heard of the comune of Monte Bianco outside of Naples?

Can't seem to find it anywhere.

When I saw Monte Bianco I immediately thought of Mont Blanc, in the north of Italy. I can't find anything with that name and a Naples connection.

Perhaps it's a frazione (village) within a comune in the Naples area. A lot of the time you won't find much about them on the internet, since they're usually pretty small.
My Italian surnames:

Caserta: Maietta, Rossano, Tessitore, Negro, Peluso, Musone

Campobasso: D'Andrea, Barile

Catanzaro: Fiorelli/Fiorillo, Romito

I already checked several lists of frazioni in that area and nothing close comes up in the search.

But what do you define as the Naples area? For instance, my great grandfather was from a town called Marcianise, and his kids and grandkids still said he was from Naples, even though it's over a half hour away (and in a different province).

P.S.

What site do you use to search for frazioni (for future reference)?

I could not find any location in Italy (besides the mountain) with the name Montebianco or Monte Bianco. Nor I could find any location in Campania containing the word bianco...

Thank you all so much. Another researcher of the family thought their branch came from a comune with this name. I know from the sites I searched I could not locate it either.

Love some family stories!

Hi Lilbees,
I don't know if this can be the case, but I remember you were looking for civil records of Commune of Pagani.
Pagani is 37 km from Naples, and one of its next Communes is Sant'Egidio Monte Albino (or Montalbino). Albino just means Bianco (Albino literally is used for people with no melanine in their skin).

Hey, thanks! The folks who referenced this particular comune are now in the process of rethinking the name. Who know, maybe they will come up with the right one.

Thanks,
lilbees

Oh, by the way, the Archives is being quite helpful with the records from Pagani.

Okay, that answers my question. It is a street and not a comune.

Thank you once again.

Well, maybe...

It is a very short road (just one block) and may or may not have existed during the time in question.

But, still, it is certainly a possibility!
