Looking for information on the family of John Todaro

Post by siskojnash »

I am looking for information on the family of John Todaro, and his wife and children. He was born around 1870 in Italy, according to the 1910 and 1920 US Census. His wife, Rose, was born around 1874 in Italy. Their first two children were also born in Italy. Tony was born on July 14, 1895 in Italy. One of the censuses said he emigrated in 1899. John Todaro was born around 1899 in Italy.
Joseph Todaro was born on January 21, 1910 in New York and died on April 16, 1995. I would like to find out exactly where he was born and died, but don't need this line traced. His wife was Clara Castrovinci. Rose Todaro was born around 1906 in New York. Frances Todaro was born around 1912 in New York.
Theodore Todaro was born around 1915 in New York. He had a wife named Grace. He had two children named Grace Todaro and Theodore Todaro, Jr. I'm not certain if they had the same mother or not.
The final child, Alfred Todaro, was born in December 1916 in New York. He had a wife named Eunice and a daughter named Carolyn Todaro. I already found the 1910 and 1920 census for the main family, but would very much like to see and be able to download any other documents that can be found. Thank you very much for your time.

Thank you very much for posting that. I wonder what else is available for the family. I tried to search for Ellis Island papers, but wasn't able to find any. I think Rose emigrated with her children Tony and John Todaro in 1899. I was hoping it would give Rose's maiden name. I think her husband emigrated a couple years before.
Joseph Todaro's son told me that he thought the female children in the family died young, since he didn't remember having any aunts, only uncles.
There is apparently a WWII draft card, naturalization index, and also a 1930 census for Tony Todaro. I wonder whether or not the census for Tony Todaro is the right one. It shows up as a hint in my tree, although I don't have access to the documents. There's supposed to be a WWII draft card for Alfred Todaro also. Of course, I don't know if any of this is for the right people.

Thank you so much! Do you think it would be possible to find the passenger list for Giovanni Todaro (John) who was born about 1870? I'm starting to suspect that these Todaros came from Spadafora.
Another mystery about this family: He apparently remarried at some point. His son, Joseph Todaro, had a falling out with his father about the new woman and left the house.
For a little while, he ended up staying with his brother, Tony, and his wife, Pauline, until it became clear that he had worn out his welcome as far as Tony's wife was concerned. I only know that Joseph was 'a young man' when his father remarried. I would really like to find out who this woman was, particularly since no one in the family seems to know the name.
It must have happened sometime after 1920, since I found that census, with Rose in the household. I wonder whether or not Rose died, or if there was a divorce. Italian families wouldn't really have divorced in those days though, right?

Thank you! According to the census, he emigrated in 1898. I wonder if it would be possible to find his naturalization documents or passenger list. Since John Todaro remarried after Rose died, I wonder whether or not there would be a marriage index or something. According to this census, he was 58, so his birthdate would have been around 1872. I had it as around 1870, but that also came from a census.
I wonder if Joseph, John's son, could have moved back in later, but then didn't like him finding a new wife. It sounds horrible that it created some sort of feud. He lost his wife. Was he just supposed to be alone for the rest of his life? Apparently, it wasn't like he left Rose for someone else, although that would have really shocked me.
I think the Ancestry site had showed a 1930 Census for Tony Todaro, who had been born in 1895. If it's the right Tony, I wonder whether or not he would have been living with his wife.

It hard to soolve this mystery...
I found 3 marriage records:
Surname Given Name Month Day Year County Certificate Number
Todaro John Nov 9 1930 Kings 15297
Todaro John Jan 3 1937 Queens 108
Todaro John Jun 7 1937 Manhattan 15584
if your John Todaro really remarried maybe, the record is :
Todaro John Nov 9 1930 Kings 15297
for bad luck, no bride name... the website until some month ago provided also the bride name, currently changed, no bride name with groom name and so it is no much helpful....

There was another John Todaro who was born about 1899, who was his son. That's the one who was supposed to be in the WWI Draft. I wonder whether or not he was a Jr.
