150 years of united Italy - National Day March 17, 2011

Post by pink67 »

I want to point to you all that tomorrow here in Italy we'll celebrate the 150° anniversary of the birth of the "Italia Unita"
150 years ago, on March 17th, 1861, Italy became a nation...

I spent the day (March 17) telling people about this wonderful anniversary.
I told those of Italian heritage and others. I even told a woman who emigrated to U.S. at the age of 14 and still communicates with family back in Italy. Not one person knew anything about this great event.
I informed the vice president of the Italian club where I am a member and he announced it last night at our St. Patrick's day dinner dance. It received a nice response particularly from the Italians who still have roots in Italy. :)

I am curious. Was this a big event in the homeland? Or, was it just another day that was marked on the calendar.

I'm happy to hear that it was a recognized and celebrated holiday in Italy.
Those sites were very interesting.

Thank you T.

it was a celebrated day , schools and offices closed and celebrations in many towns...
This is the official spot of the Ministero della Difesa that we saw on TV :

p.s. I never saw so many italian flags at the windows of many houses like in these last days... except when Italia won the Mondiale di Calcio

I didn't even see it on our international news channels.

I am so pleased that is was recognized appropriately in the mother land. Wish I was there.

Thank you for that nice TV spot.
