Ship manifest

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Ship manifest

Post by rosel »

Would anyone know if it means anything when it looks like there is a line going straight through a passengers name and information? I have come across this a few times in my research.

Usually means that the passenger did not sail on that ship :-)

Here is a good guide to manifest markings...

Thank you Tessa78, that explains why I find my ggf's name on three ships coming over here within July and August of the same year.

Looks like his name is crossed out on all three but supposedly he did come over on the last one in August, unless he was on a fourth ship in August that I did not find.

Crossed out is crossed out. Until you find a manifest in which his name is not crossed out, you have not found his actual sailing.

If you would care to share his name, birth year, and other information, we might find a document which you haven't yet located.

Thank you Johnny. His name is Guiseppe Antonio Piteo. born 1848, he arrived August 1907, I believe. Born in Rodi, to Hoboken, NJ to his son Antonio or wife M. Pupillo.

I was able to trace the family back to 1700's in Rodi. I think if I deicde to try for citizenship I would just need my grandfather's docs. I am working on that now. I am waiting for his bc from Rodi and naturalization info.
