Under normal circumstances, you should not expect a comune's stato civile office to do a broad search of records for a 10 year period, hence we would suggest looking into available microfilm records at your local Family History Center. However, since it appears that the FHC does not have any films at all for Villavallelonga, you do not have too many options.

Being that is a very small comune (current population around 1,000), there would not have been very many marriages in any given year and you may get lucky if you kiindly request an extended search of the records. Write, in Italian, to:

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Villavallelonga
Piazza Olmi
67050 Villavallelonga (AQ)
ITALY

web: http://www.comune.villavallelonga.aq.it/ (seems to be down at the moment...)

Villevallelonga wants to be paid for searches. They don't ask much, but, they want the money deposited in their Post Office account. I know this because I ordered a record for someone who had requested it without success many times. I had no problem. They sent me the invoice, I paid it into their account, they sent me the record.

Ann, just out of curiosity - how much did they charge for the record(s)?

Thank you all for your thoughts. We get so used to using the web to order information. I'll check out one of of the letter templates and see what happens. I may be able to narrow down the target period some. I don't mind pitching in if they need to be paid.

If I recall correctly, under Italian law the records are free, however the comuni are permitted to charge a small fee to cover copying and mailing costs. Most comuni do not charge at all as obtaining payment from persons outside Italy/EU is fraught with difficulties and not worth the effort for what usually amounts to less than €5.

In fact, I wonder if Ann (ItalySearcher) was asked to pay specifically because she is located in Italy.

Many of the comunes I have requested records from have charged. Especially since the cost of postage has gone up so much. My requests have been for actual copies of the records and, as explained to me, "the books are old and they are difficult to copy and very time consuming." I am sure an extract would not be charged for other than postage. I believe the law may not necessarily, and rightly so, apply to the actual copying of records as such. I am probably wrong but I personally do believe it to be true for what it is worth.

It was several years ago and I really don't remember except that it came to about $10 Canadian at the time for two records.
The problem is not the money, it's how they want to receive it. Into their post office account. I requested the records for some one who had requested them directly many times without success. They didn't ask money from me just because I am here in Italy. They just don't know how to request money from people overseas I think. Postage to USA from Italy has doubled. It is now 1.60 Euro to mail a letter with one sheet of paper.
I am not pitching for business here, just letting you know why, if you don't get a response.
Rome does the same thing for photocopies. They want 1 euro deposited in their account. It costs 1.10 euro to do this. Otherwise you just get a certificate.
