Califano - Farina

Post by jmtcal »

Looking for information on my Great-Great-Grandparents.

My Great-Grand Parents are:
Nicola Califano
B: 15 Jun 1874 in Pagani, Campania, Italy
D: 24 Feb 1969 in Brooklyn, NY

Teresa Farina
B: 4 Oct 1879 in Pagani, Campania, Italy
D: 30 Oct 1942 in Brooklyn, NY

Married on 14 Dec 1898.
Arrived in USA on 16 May 1900

I have Census, ship and naturalization information for them.

Parents of Nicola:
Father: Alfonso Califano
Mother: Angela LaFemina

Parents of Teresa:
Father: Marchiore Farina
Mother: Carolina Cioffi

Since Great-Grand parents were married before immigration, I am assuming that they both wre from Pagani.

Thanks,

John

If your sure of the town they are from and born in since I see there are no films listed in the Family History Library for Pagani Italy you will have to write or email to see if there are records availible for your family from the comune of Pagani
Heres the address
Comune di Pagani
Piazza D'Arezzo, 33
84016 Pagani (SA)
Italy

On the advice of another forum member, I was advised that Pagani is not very cooperative in answering requests. Since I have family members from that comune I wrote to the Salerno Archives for the requested information.

The Archives responds very quickly. You can use one of the form letters as suggested but I would copy it into an email and send to the Salerno Archives at:

as-sa@beniculturali.it

(leave out the spaces in the address)

You will have better success than to write to Pagani.

Hi,

I spoke with my Uncle and he gave me more information about my Great-grandfather.

The church they attended in Pagani is Parrocchia S. Alfonso (Basilica St. Alphonso).

Does anyone know if records are available? Do they respond to communications?

Thanks.

I received an email back from the Salerno Archives:

Distinti saluti
Il funzionario responsabile
dott.ssa Fernanda Maria Volpe
Il dirigente
dott.ssa Imma Ascione

From online translators I believe they are says that they do not have birth records but do have a Military record.
Has anyone sent money via Western Union? What is the exact address. Hard to tell from the email.

Thanks, John
