As you can see from this map http://www.gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/gen ... ome=QUASSI and also from current Italian telephone listings http://www.paginebianche.it/execute.cgi ... &om=0&l=en, the Quassi surname is very rare indeed.

At first glance at ancestry . com, there seem to be no Quassi records at all. Do you have any additional details concerning your ancestors which may aide the search?

Yes, I agree the name is rare and the only additional information I have at this time is:

Father: Carlo Quassi
Mother: Marcella Favretto

Son:
Fulvio Quassi
Born 05.02.1929 ---- Trieste
Married 26.03.1951 (?)
Died 06.11.2004 ---- Australia

I have often found the National Archives of Australia to have many useful records concerning immigrant Italians. In this case, however, I found only one, the value of which is difficult to estimate.

If you are not familiar with the archives, go to http://www.naa.gov.au/ and click Name Search on the right. Searching "quassi" and "All Records" turns up just two, one of which is shown here:

Clicking the Request Copy link at the top right of the search results will permit you to order a copy of the record for AU$16.50. Worth the expense? I don't know.

Curiously, one can normally find immigration records at this site quite easily. Makes me wonder if there are other records which are mis-indexed but a few obvious searches (guassi, quas*, and the like) did not turn up anything useful.

The telephone listings (linked above) show a single Quassi in Trieste. There is a reasonable likelyhood that he is a relative.

Hi Bill,

I know this date is not of much help but I found in a 1929 Marriage Bann Index (wrongly listed as Citizenship index) for the town of Trieste a (possible) sister of Fulvio:

the index shows that Carmela Quassi di Carlo (daughter of the living Carlo) is listed at the Marriage bann Register number 1704 Volume 5.

Unfortunately there are no images of the marriage banns, just the index..

It's a little bit strange that on the same year Fulvio was born a (possible) sister got marriage but I believe this date is correct being the lastname Quassi very rare...
There are also Quass and Quas in Trieste...
