Mauri and Mutti

Post by mdmontario »

My great grandfather Carlo Mauri was born in Civate, around 1859 but I don't know anything about his parents and ancestors. He married Matilda Mutti in Carlazzo (Como) in 1884. He moved to Canada in 1911 with my grand-father Luigi and all his relatives. As for his wife, Matilda, we just know of her father Domenico and that he died in 1895. Anyone who can help me further to look for my ancestors??? :D

The current Mayor of Civate, Lecco, Italy is Baldassare Cristofor Mauri :-)
Maybe a distant relative?

You can write directly to the comune of Civate for the birth records of Carlo and his parents...

Address:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Via Manzoni, 5
23862 Civate (LC)
ITALY

When a couple were to be married they had to provide a certificate of their birth. These records were attached to the marriage registration and called "allegati" (attachments)

I found the allegati for Carlo and Matilde's marriage.

Carlo's certificate of birth (not the original record) issued by Civate on 6 October 1884.
Identifies him as Carlo Giuseppe Mauri
Born on 24 September 1859 to
Serafino and to Rosa Brusadelli
in Civate.

Matilde's record...from town and parish of Carlazzo was issued 12 October 1884
Identifies her as Matilde Innocente Mutti
Born on 30 November 1862 to
Domenico and to Prudenza Vischi
in Carlazzo.

I am amazed! Millegrazie Tessa! How would you suggest that I pursue my search for even earlier ancestors?

You can write to the civil registrations office as I stated above...
You can also write (especially for earlier records) to the local parish church. The church kept from from about the 14th or 15th century onward :-)

Hi,

I am seeking information on Morri and Mutti believed to be from around Parma. Peter (possibly Pietro) Morri and Bernard (Bernardo) Mutti are thought to have been brothers, organ grinders who emigrated to Liverpool in the United Kingdom around the 1840s. I'm unsure if the Mutti you mention could be a lead. Thanks for any information you may have.
