Mengoni

Post by forbirde »

Trying to find a Paolina Mengoni from Cis Italy. I really don't have any other information. A brother, Abraham (or Abramo) was born (1901) in the United States, but believe Paolina was born in Italy.

I have no other information on Paolo. Looking for her brother Abraham (Abramo). My cousin was told she was named about her, so after looking for Abraham for many hours, thought I would check for her. We do know Abraham was born in Wyoming, pink67 I will follow up on your information also. He did travel back from Italy in 1924 listed as a U.S. Citizen. going to ironwood Michigan to Cousin Decaminada Pia.
thanks for your help

You're welcome! :D
As I noticed that Abramo at his arrival on 1924 stated that he was leaving in Cis his father Domenico, I thought to search for Mengoni's births in Cis with father's name Domenico...
Do you know if Abramo had other siblings?

the only one we heard about was a sister Paolina. Also, heard she never came to the U.S. Don't know if this is true or just rumors.

I have found some more information, which we believe is correct. Viginia Paolina Mengoni was born in 1907 in Cis. Parents: Domenico and Paola Zadra. We believe they also had Carlo, Fiorentina, and Giorgio Born 1903.
Still can't find any information on Abraham (Abramo) Mengoni, born 1901 in Wyoming.

tanks for the update..
For references:

1930 United States Federal Census

Name: Abraham Mengeni
Home in 1930: Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
View Map
Age: 29
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1901
Birthplace: Wisconsin
Relation to Head of House: Son-in-Law
Race: White
Occupation:
Education:
Military Service:
Rent/home value:
Age at first marriage:
Parents' birthplace:
View image
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members:
Name Age
Henry Parisi 24 head, born in Pennsylvania to austrian parents
Vera Parisi 20 wife, born in Oklahoma to austrian parents
Delores Parisi 1 1/12 son born in Wisconsin
Abraham Mengeni 29 son in law :?: born in Wyoming
Linda Mengeni 23 wife, born in Oklahoma to austrian parents
Roland Mengeni 10/12 son, born in Michigan.

Abraham was the son in law of the real head of this family listed a few lines above, Camillo Zanotelli, living with his wife Mary, born in Austria , daughters Angela age 16 and Anna age 11 both born in Oklahoma. Linda Mengoni and Vera Parisi were (I think ) two other daughters of Camillo.

p.s. Abramo was born in Wyoming...

Yes...I had found this census...but outside of that..I have not been able to find anything on him. Nothing from his birth in Wyoming, etc. I do know he passed away in 1935 and is buried in Milwaukee.

If you're lookin for his birth certificate you have to ask it to the Wyoming State archives (being a pre-1909 certificate):

http://wyoarchives.state.wy.us/Research ... 8&homeID=2

Even if it may be difficult because:

Prior to 1908, the filing of birth and death certificates was not required in Wyoming. In 1907 the State Bureau of Vital Statistics was entrusted by the state legislature to register birth and death certificates (Session Laws of Wyoming, 1907, Chapter 99). The law took effect in January, 1908. However, the agency was not able to implement the law until 1909. The registration of marriage and divorce certificates was added to the agency's duties in 1941 (Session Laws of Wyoming, 1941, Chapter 115).

You also know that he was born in Rock Springs - Sweetwater county, or at least this is what he stated at the time of his 1924 arrival in NYC. Date of birth looks like 14 April (or August) 1901

Soon after his birth he moved to Italy (considering that his sister Virginia Paola was born in Italy on 1907), on 1924 he returned to U.S., married Linda around 1927/1928 (possibly in Michigan considering that their son Roland was born in Michigan on 1929), lived in Milwaukee on 1930 and died there on 1935...

That's what we thought also, but can't find anything when he went back to Italy. We found out he had a brother Carlo born in Cis July 27, 1895. Can't find when his parents came to the U.S. Domenico and Paola Zadra. Also a brother Giorgia Placide was norn in 1903, so there had to be here for a limited amount of time.

I saw that birth record too, But I also believe that the 1900 census is correct for Domenico Mengoni's family:

1900 United States Federal Census

Name: Dominic Mengony[Dominic Mengoni]
Home in 1900: Northside, Sweetwater, Wyoming [Bitter Creek, Sweetwater, Wyoming]
Age: 39
Birth Date: Oct 1860
Birthplace: Austria
Race: White
Gender: Male
Immigration Year: 1887
Relationship to head-of-house: Head
Father's Birthplace: Austria
Mother's Birthplace: Austria
Spouse's Name: Paulina Mengony
Marriage year: 1894
Marital Status: Married
Years married: 6
Occupation: View on Image
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members:
Name Age
Dominic Mengony 39 head, born in Austria on October 1860, married since 6 years, immigr. year 1887, naturalized
Paulina Mengony 37 wife, born in Austria on December 1862, married since 6 years, mother of three children all living, immigr. year 1894
Charles Mengony 4, son, born on July 1895 in Wyoming
Rentina Mengony 2, daughter, born on October 1897 in Wyoming
Virginia Mengony 1, daughter, born on January 1898 in Wyoming

I would advice you to contact your nearest Family History Center and ask them to rent the microfilm of the church acts of the parish church of Cis:

Matrimoni 1822-1923 Morti 1664-1923
FHL INTL Film 1388653 Items 1-6

you'll be able to see the original church baptism acts...
It's also possible that they decided to baptize the children once they came back to Cis, because from the 1900 census looks like that the children were really born in the U.S.
Charles is Carlo and Rentina and abbreviation of Fiorentina...

Or, ask to the proper office of the Comune of Cis the birth acts for the children...

We did send a message to Cis and waiting for a second reply. The first reply was how I got the Children's name.
