Valenziano, Mazzilli, and Calefato Surnames

Post by carmenvalenziano »

hello

my grandfather, Vincenzo Valenziano, born 1889 in Trani and my grandmother, Carmela Mazzilli, born 1889 in Trani were married in Trani in 1911

would like to find birth, marriage and death information on Vincenzo Valenziano's parents, Giuseppe Valenziano and Marianna Calefato; and Carmela Mazzilli's parents, Pietro Mazzilli and Lucia Calefato - all from Trani

there was a story that after Pietro Mazzilli's wife died, he married Lucia Calefato Valenziano after her husband died so they would not be alone when my grandparents emigrated to America in 1911

any help will be greatly appreciated

thank you

Hi Carmen, and welcome! :-)

If you are willing to put in some time and effort, you can view the original civil registrations for Trani at your local Family History Center. The Mormon church has the microfilmed civil records (births, marriages, deaths, etc.) for Trani (Province of Bari) for the years 1813-1910 available for renting and viewing at the FHC. It costs about $5.50 per month to rent the films...

Here is what is available (nati=births, matrimoni=marriages, morti=deaths)
http://familysearch.org/eng/library/fhl ... +Trani+%28++

To find your nearest FHC enter your zip on this site
https://www.familysearch.org/locations

The records, of course, are in Italian, but if you need them translated just post them in the appropriate forum here... :-)

Another option would be to write directly to the Comune of Trani :-)

You should write your request in Italian, and provide as much information as you can about your ancestor. Try not to request more than two documents at a time (sometimes they WILL send you more than you ask for). There is no charge for these records, but you may be asked to send a payment to cover mailing, etc. DO NOT send any money unless/until you are asked to...

the right name of Carmela was Carmina Mazzilli she was born in Trani on 29 Apr 1889 #535 daughter of Pietro Mazzilli and Lucia Calefato; Carmina married in Trani at Vincenzo Valenzano on 6 Jul 1911
Carmina birth act:

Vincenzo Valenzano birth act: Trani 5 Oct 1889 #960
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
if you request in Trani the marriage certificate abt Vincernzo Valenzano and Carmela Mazzilli they cannot issue it, you must request the marriage certificate of VALENZANO Vincenzo and MAZZILLI Carmina married in Trani on 6 Jul 1911 the her first name is Carmina and no Carmela...
hoping helpful,
regards,
