Teresa Carbone and Victor Sormanti

Post by Amansolillo »

Hello. My great-great aunt was Teresa Carbone (nee Sormanti). She was born in 1913 in Rhode Island to Francesco Sormanti and Angela Cocuzzoli (Angela's last name varies with records. Unknown if actually Cocuzzoli). The name of her husband is unknown. Teresa died in 1993. If anyone could find information, that would be appreciated. Also, I wish to find information on her brother, Victor (Vittorio) Sormanti, who was born in 1903 in Ceprano, Italy. Accordingly, he married a Doris Dooley. Like Teresa, I would appreciate information on Victor and his wife. Thank you

Teresa Sormanti in the 1935 Rhode Island Census
She is single and working as a "bench hand" at a jewelry shop

Yes, I found the first record of their arrival. It was the record that first gave me knowledge of Angela's last name. However, I found three other variants. On the 1916 death record for Angela, it says Cocozuoli. On the 1945 death record for Vittorio, it says Cuciosolis. In the 1986 obituary for Giuseppe, it says Cocozzola.

According to the 1935 Rhode Island Census Cards - it looks like Victor and Doris both worked for the Outlet Co. Department Store in Providence. He as a shipping clerk and she as an office clerk.

Head of Household - Number in Family: 5

Death records are notoriously inaccurate
I would put my faith in the ship manifest. The spelling was usually taken right from the passport...

I know. One death record inexplicably mispelled Sormanti as Sarmangi. I believe it is Cocuzzoli

"lvola1" is not related to the Sormanti's at all and is inexplicably doing an in-depth research on them.
