Family of Giovanni (John) Tisci

Post by JDinNJ »

Giovanni (Eisci--wrong spelling?)Tisci 22, abt 1892
- from Poggio Imp
- leaving wife Vincenza in Poggio Imperiale
- joining brother-in-law Antonio Romano in Scranton PA

That's what I have. His name was John in the U.S. Perhaps Vincenza didn't translate, because his wife, my grandmother was Mary Lentini. I've seen the manifest with her name and she came over with her 1st daughter some time later.

Does anyone have any thing more from Italy?

Thanks!

Hi JDinNJ :-)

Could you post the manifest for Giovanni. The surname may actually be CISCI...

You can use an image-sharing site like http://postimage.org/ which is free...
Copy and paste the "thumbnail for forums (1)" here...

Hi,
I found the manifest in E.I.
It seems to be definitely "Tisci", also because this is a surname that can be found in region Puglia, where Poggio Imperiale is.
In familySearch you can find several Tisci's born in Poggio Imperiale (also one Giovanni, that can't be yours). To see them search Tisci, then filter by Birthplace, choosing Europe, then Italy, and then Puglia.

Hi all! :D

Thanks for posting the manifest, Marty :-)

And Pippo, I agree, it most likely is TISCI... :-)

Thank you for all the help. I am hoping to find out more about what happened to him after he moved to Scranton. I know he died an untimely death. He does seem to have vanished after he arrived here, but I'm positive he was in Scranton, where he fathered 3 more children over probably 5 years.

Thanks, again!

This may be a long-shot, but I found a John Tisci(the way I read the actual writing on the census) in the 1930 Census ...
He is a patient in Newton, Lackawanna, PA at the Hillside Home for the Insane. :(
Birth date and place, marital status, and immigration year all match.

1930 United States Federal Census

Name: John Jish
[John Tish] Looking at the record, good chance this is TISCI poorly written and transcribed
Gender: Male
Birth Year: abt 1890
Birthplace: Italy

Race: White
Home in 1930: Newton, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania
View Map
Street Address: Hillside Drive
Marital Status: Married
Immigration Year: 1914
Relation to Head of House: Patient
Father's Birthplace: Italy
Mother's Birthplace: Italy
