POW search - Grandfather Leno Rafaeli Cappicci, Easingwold

Post by Roch »

Hi, I have been searching for my Grandfather but I have little information on him as my Grandmother passed away some years ago.

All I know is he was captured and held at Searchlight Site Camp, Husthwaite, Easingwold, Yorkshire, England and he was on this camp in 1945 as my father was born in August 1946, he knew my father was alive after he had returned to Italy but I believe he returned to his own family back there and contact was lost after a couple of letters between himself and my Grandmother.

I would hate to cause upsetment and embarassment to his family but I would love to find him or his family as I know he survived. My Dad has always been a bit lost and gave up years ago looking for him. I have searched for 28 years for him and came across this website as another hope. I have always wanted to know who he was and fill in the blanks. I also have a son of my own and I would love him to know more about his distant family.

His name is: Leno Raffaeli Cappicci, I may have the incorrect spelling.

Any help would really be appreciated. Regards
Roch

Hello Roch,

I will look into this as best i can for you, but can i suggest the spelling to be Leno Raffaele Capocci, as it is a common Immigrants surname from the Frosinone Area of Italy?

Roch,

Can you supply more information you know? Like your Grandmothers name and Father and places? Do you have your fathers birth certificate? etc

My Grandmother did not marry my Grandfather, he was a POW and she got pregnant whilst he was, she was English. My father was born on 30/08/46 in Easingwold in North Yorkshire, England, all we know is he returned to Italy.
I may have the spelling wrong and both surnames sound like they could be. I remember seeing photos that my grandmother had with his name on the back but I was so young, when she died 8 years ago anything she knew went to her grave. I may never find him or relatives but I would love to try, your help is really appreciate, thank you

My Father just gave me this information on my grandfather:

"I have no other infomation about my Dad. The name Capecce rings a bell.Yes i think i would want to know about my father. Mam told me she wrote to him when he was repatriated and he replied. Dad had a sister and brother. The sisters name was Maria. The address i saw, it looked like Vica Vaca al Maraca, Naples."

Does this help?

Maybe you can write to:
British Red Cross
International Tracing & Message Services
44 Moorfields
London EC2Y 9AL
