Anthony Amato Birth Certificate 1914.jpg
Hi all, My name is Jennifer Amato Matheny and I am new to this amazing website! I have been having such a difficult time finding my Amato family history. My grandfather was Anthony Omero Amato. He was born 8 Oct 1914 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the youngest of 6 children. He had 6 older sisters, Josephine (Guiseppina), Anna, Jennie (Giovanna), Alice, Amy, Jean (Gina). I found two ships manifests where the sisters, all except Amy, who was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, came to New York from Bracigliano with their mother Rosa Danise (Danice). My Grandfather's parents died when he was small and he was raised by his sisters, so we know very little about his family. He always told us his family was from Naples, but in actuality, that is the town they shipped out from. Does anyone have any of these family on their trees? I am so desperate to find any information. When I got started, all I knew was my GGfather's name was Antonio Amato and my GGmother's name was Rose. I found my grandfather's birth certificate from Chicago, but the person dictating the names misspelled them wrong. Thankfully they had his middle name, Omero, or I might never have found it. That is how I found Rosa's maiden name was Danise and then found the manifests. Our family never even knew these ancestors lived in Springfield Massachusetts for a while! I would appreciate any help in finding my GGparent's history. Thank you so much! Not sure If I am doing this right, but below is the link to the ships manifest. It was from 27 Aug 1913, Port of departure, Napleshttp://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0007
