I am a Beiso from Gibraltar (Gibilterra). I have been trying to conduct some family history research for some time now. Unfortunately, it appears that the furthest back I can go here in Gibraltar is the early 19th century. It would appear that the first Beisos came to Gibraltar from Italy some time then. More specifically, I was initially told the Beisos came from Genoa. More recently, I found a record of a Beiso which stated he came from Zinola, which I now understand to be a district of the town of Savona.
A Google search for "Beiso" throws up many names, most of whom seem to be based in towns and cities along the Ligurian coast.
I would very much appreciate:
(a) Confirmation that Zinola is part of Savona. I have seen references to cemeteries, beaches and camping sites in the area bearing the name.
(b) Any further information on how I can follow up my research in Zinola/Savona/Genoa on the Beiso name. Is anybody out there familiar with the name, for instance?
Many thanks for your help!
Dennis.
