Online records are available through a paid subscription to Ancestry... BUT they begin in 1866

Was he married in Avigliano? Maybe we could find that record? That would provide some of the information you are searching for.

ANOTHER option would be to rent and view the microfilmed records for Avigliano (1809-1910) at your nearest LDS Family History Center...

I looked a little for a POSSIBLE MARIAGE RECORD for the birth date of GIUSEPPE VACCARO
Born 1854 in Avigliano, Potenza,Basilicata figuring about 20- 25 yrs old when he got married

Wow, Thank you very much Marty. That is my great grand father. He was married to Caterina Filadelfia. They both came to the US in 1907 with
their 4 children, one of which was my grandfather.

They had there first child Giambattista Vaccaro in 1880 Oct 25 in Avigliano son of Giuseppe Vaccaro and Caterina Filadelfia at house on via della Vittoria he was born still born and died

Marty , Thanks again. I am very new to this and just stared the process last week. My son , just had his first son and I thought it would be good to get all the family history in order.
If I want to follow the Vaccaro history prior to 1861 I will need to look to the records for Avigliano ( 1809-1910 ) that Tessa78 pointed out above. Are there records prior to 1809??

You would have to go through the church to find those records earlier than 1809
There are Registri ecclesiastici di Avigliano (Potenza), 1631-1898
Curia Arcivescovile di Potenza church records
at Family History Library on film Baptisms, confirmations, marriages, deaths. Includes some handwritten transcripts from civil records and only one index (baptisms,1891-1894) they are in Latin
Since it says Giuseppe was born in Avigliano according to the marriage record
I would try to find the marriage record of Giambattista Vaccaro and Anna Colangelo before 1854 in Avigliano either on microfilm or writing a letter to the town of Avigliano
