New Here, Need help looking for extended family in Italy

Post by Cacace5 »

Hi everyone my name is Nicholas Cacace. I have recently started building my family tree through ancestry.com but have come to a stalemate it seems. I have gotten as far to my 3rd Great Grandfather Felice Cacace and Grandmother Louisa Cacace (maiden name was Tolli). According to the Ellis Island website both Felice and Louisa came to America in 1911 and Felice was a resident in Tagliacozzo, Italy. This is a much as I could find, I am not able to find any additional information as in regards to any family I could possibly have in Italy. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

- Nicholas Cacace.

Are you looking for living relatives or information and ancestry of your family?
If the latter, then start with ancestry.com or familysearch.org.
If the former, you need to think first about how you plan to communicate with them when you find them. Do you speak Italian? Do you plan to visit Italy, and them? If not, then what is the purpose of your contact? They are sure to wonder if you hope to collect on any inheritance that they may have assumed in the absence of your 3x GGparents.
By all means search your ancestry, you will find it fascinating, but your living relatives may not be as enthusiastic about your existence, but then again....

I am looking for both, I just started using ancestry so I am still trying to get the hang of it and figure everything out as for familysearch.org I can't seem to grasp what to do. I took Italian for two years in high school and a semester in college, I have a basic understanding of it but I am not fluent. I plan on spending my next summer in Italy hopefully from May until the end of August. It has nothing to do with inheritance, I would just love to meet any possibly family I do have in Italy being that I have never even left the United States before.

start with this website to find birth, marriage, and death records - https://www.familysearch.org/s/collecti ... Id=1927178
If you don't know the province where they came from (needed to use the website I gave you), then use this website to find out - http://www.italyworldclub.com/italian-communes/

Don't read Italian? - the following link will help you translate various Italian documents and key words - http://www.myfamily.com/share?s=1jxvBSg6l27DrpoEEZYodQ

Thank you very much for the help! I was on ancestry for a few hours today and came across that Felice Cacace is also listed as Felice Caeace a few times in some census reports. I looked for both Cacace and Caeace on the italyworldclub.com website you referred me to but I found nothing for either of those last names. Back so searching for some more information!

After looking a at some of the indexes of Registri dello stato civile di Tagliacozzo (L'Aquila), 1809-1865
POSSIBLE BIRTH RECORD OF ANTONIO CACACE (FATHER OF FELICE)
INDEX# 88
1850 Aug 28 in the town of Tagliacozzo birth of Antonio Cacace son of Giuseppe Cacace age 28 farmer and legal wife Placida Ciancei he was baptized in the church of SS. Cosma e Damiano
