Ellis Island to Vicksburg,Miss 1906 Endentured Servants

Hi, My family came through Ellis Island and then went to Vicksburg, Miss or Louisiana . They worked on a plantation for 4 or 5 months and then escaped up to Connecticut. I have Ellis Island records. Need help finding any records of the them down in Mississippi.

This family did arrive at Ellis Island in 1906 and their destination was to Vicksburg, Mississippi and to a so-called cousin named Amedeo Aranzi. They are listed as "field workers" on the passenger list. As I previously stated, they could not have entered this country in 1906 and been listed as "indentured servants," as the inspectors at Ellis Island would have turned them away. I think that, even though they were treated as if they were indentured servants, technically they were not. Their passage was paid for by this person, as stated on the passenger list. He was, more than likely, the plantation owner who had paid for their passage in return for them contracting work with him on his plantation or out in the fields he owned. They were probably treated like "indentured servants," although technically they weren't. Since you say they were only in Mississippi for 4 or 5 months before escaping to Ct, I doubt we will be able to locate any records for this family while in Mississippi.

The correct spelling of the name is BIGHINATI

Thank you for that information. The only thing i doubt is that Amedeo
was a plantation owner as Italians were regarded as 2nd class citizens
during that time. I have to research that name.

Also located the arrival of Amadeo Avanzi (the cousin listed on Giovanni's manifest as paying for passage) - He was also an immigrant heading to Mississippi...

Amadeo (age 44) arrived in 1905 with his wife, Teresa Bansati (41), and son Giuseppe (16)
He was going to Vicksburg, Miss
Passage was paid by "uncle" Giuseppe Eparco
