Lucchetti Scannavino Albertoni from Chiavari
Lucchetti Scannavino Albertoni from Chiavari
Looking for Lucchetti, Scannavino and/or Albertoni connections in Chiavari.
Part of this may not be accurate, but it’s what I have compiled from records and family stories so far.
Francesco Lucchetti (b: 1838) was in love with Rosa Albertoni (b: 1863) while living in Chiavari. He wanted to bring her to America, but her parents would not allow it.
Francesco moved to California (immigrated 1865) and started one of the first Italian restaurants in San Francisco, called Lucchetti’s.
Meanwhile, Rosa (name could be wrong) married Luigi (?) Scannavino and wound up living in Camanche, California. Camanche no longer exists. In 1963, the Camanche Dam was built, and the town was flooded. It is now Lake Camanche. Luigi was a gold miner.
Rosa died, leaving behind 2 or possibly 3 children. Luigi could not work and care for the children, so he asked Francesco (Frank) and wife Frances to raise John Scannavino (b: 1881 in Italy) and Maria Scannavino (b: 1883 in California), who were small children at the time. Supposedly, there was a third child, an older girl, who stayed with Luigi.
A relative told me that Francesco had a brother, Guiseppe “Pepo” Lucchetti, who was married to Josephine “Pena”.
Francesco also was a brother to, Domenico (b: 1834), Luigi Lucchetti (b: 1836) and Carlo Lucchetti (b: 1837). Carlo was a Consulate for Italy in Africa or South America. Carlo had a son, Eduardo, who was killed in a motorcycle accident. Eduardo was a POW and was held in an English camp.
Relatives have said that Francesco’s father was a sea captain. They lived in a 4-story home near the water. Relatives said that the house had a view of the sea, after a row of homes in front of it were washed away in a storm.
I am looking for any information on related Lucchetti’s, Scannavino’s or Albertoni’s who are from Chiavari or who are related to any of the people I have listed. I am particularly interested in finding Francesco’s parents, and also learning about the Scannavino’s.
Maria Scannavino married Albert Lucchetti, Francesco’s son. Maria was my great-grandmother and Albert was my great-grandfather.
Francesco was my great-great-grandfather.
Thank you,

Claudia,
I live in the area and when I read the lastnames Scannavino and Lucchetti I thought that they were for sure coming from my places but not from Chiavari town.
These lastnames are specifically from the area of Varese Ligure, Maissana (which are under the province of La Spezia, same Liguria region) and Castiglione Chiavarese...
So, I tried to find the birth act of Luigi Scannavino's son and found it in Castiglione Chiavarese:
Birth Act number 49 - Year 1881
Scannavino Giovanni Battista Emanuele was born in Castiglione Chiavarese on the day 13 june 1881, son of Luigi Scannavino son of the late Emanuele, age 41, resident in Castiglione chiavarese, and of his wife Albertoni Rosa daughter of the late Giovanni Battista.

Re: Lucchetti Scannavino Albertoni from Chiavari
Considering that Luigi Scannavino was 41 years old on 1881, then he was possibly born on 1840...
I think this is his 1890 obit in San Francisco:
The morning call., April 21, 1890, Page 8, Image 8
Scannavino Luigi
In this city, april 17, Luigi Scannavino, a native of Italy, aged 49 years

Thank you Laura for all your help. I need to look at everything you've provided. I've been searching through all the Lucchetti's in the first link you provided. There are so many listed the San Francisco Call before 1922.
Will be back in touch.
Will be back in touch.
Re: Lucchetti Scannavino Albertoni from Chiavari
Sue, you're right. It doesn't make sense that Francesco was in love with a 2-yr-old. That was a family story, so perhaps that's not right. Thank you for catching that.
Re: Lucchetti Scannavino Albertoni from Chiavari
Again, from Ancestry.it, the birth act of Luigi and Rosa Scannavino's first daughter, her name was Maria, maybe the name on the 1882 arrival manifest was mispelled (image was not clear)
Birth Act number 66 - Year 1871
Scannavino Maria was born in Castiglione Chiavarese on the day 8 december 1871 at 2 p.m., The Baby's birth was declared to the town hall officer by Battilana Antonio, farmer, age 45, who assisted to the birth. Mother of the baby was Rosa Albertoni daughter of the late Giovanni Battista , father of the baby was Scannavino Luigi son of the late Emanuele, husband of Rosa.

I found the death act of Francesco Lucchetti's brother Domenico, it is the transcription of the death act in the register of the town hall of Castiglione Chiavarese they received from the town of Chiavari.
