Civil records for Forli/Cesena
Civil records for Forli/Cesena
Does anybody know whether civil records for this region exist? Nothing appears in the LDS catalog, but I am not sure what exactly that means (whether LDS simply does not have the films, or whether civil records don't exist at all for Cesena).. I am looking for some records from the 1860's, a good period in terms of LDS films.. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Thank you for the links. They may be helpful in the future! Too bad there is nothing for Cesena itself.. I suppose those records don't exist.

Re: Civil records for Forli/Cesena
This is very interesting and I thank you again! I would not have known how to find that website. Do you happen to know where I would send a written request for a record from this collection? I tried figuring this out via the link, but I can't seem to.. Also, would you know whether the situation might be similar for records from Sogliano (same period)?
There is some confusion over someone in my tree - not clear whether he was born in Cesena or Sogliano (1856/7). I always assumed Cesena, but somebody found a military record for me with the same name (birthplace listed as Sogliano). I am trying to determine whether this is the same person, or two different people who share the same name and birth year. If I can get the marriage record, or even a birth record stating Cesena I will be able to solve the mystery.

Re: Civil records for Forli/Cesena
the records are no on line... you can ask ( in italian language) a photocopy of your ancestor birth act (the archivist no make the genealogic research, but by a request of photocopy, he will search; the photocopy must be payed + postage), providing full name, birth year and possible birth place (Sogliano or Cesena); for to determine the right person you must know almost the name of his father or his mother..

Re: Civil records for Forli/Cesena
Thank you again. I appreciate all of your advice. I don't know the names of the parents. I only know the name of the wife and kids. I tried sending a written request already to both comunes -Cesena and Forli, but for some reason they directed me to the archives in Bologna. Bologna had a military record with the correct name and birth year, but birth place (Sogliano) was different than expected (Cesena). So, that is the long story.. It sounds like I had the wrong archives. Does anybody know (because I don't want to keep bothering suanj) which archives would hold birth and marriage records for Cesena and Sogliano?
