searching for Sergio rutigliano
Hi there,
I'm searching for census records of Sergio Rutigliano who passed through (possibly?) ellis island in 1913 and then went on to live in Hoboken, NJ
I believe he was born in 1884-85
However, I cannot find any census data (1920-30) on him nor can i find out when he passed away.
Can anyone lend a hand?
thanks
Mauro

Re: searching for Sergio rutigliano
It's easier to look for census records when you know who the rest of the family is...
Please if you can, provide the name of his wife (maiden name) and children he may have had during that time frame.
Where from Italy was Sergio from??

Re: searching for Sergio rutigliano
Sergio was from Molfetta, Bari,
and his wife's name was possibly Dorothea Germinario
As per my knowledge he never had any children (he was my great-grandfather's brother)
thanks,
Mauro

Hi Mauro,
Did a first name only search for a 1930 census record for Sergio, Serge, Sergei, Serjo, Serjio, Zerge,.... you name it and nothing comes up.
Here is a viewable file of the 1920 census record found by suanj.

If there is any other detail you can provide, a further search can be done...

Re: searching for Sergio rutigliano
hi mfjp,
thanks for looking through the 1930 census records.
Unfortunatley i don't have too much information about S. Rutigliano. He was my great-grandfather's younger brother and I don't believe he had any children. And according to the 1920 census, he was a young widower?
I'm mostly trying to find his day of death so that i can locate an obit and maybe find out where he is buried. Most likely somwhere in the Hudson co. area of New Jersey. Are there any other seach engines out there besids the SS death index?
thanks again,
Mauro

NJ state archives in Trenton has death records available for searching up to 1940. They are arranged by year and then alphabetical. These films are not available through the LDS.

The archives has dedicated parking and a very helpful staff.

Re: searching for Sergio rutigliano
Yes according to his census, he was a widower, and a longshoreman?
---------------------------------------------
For other Rutigliano's this Australian site has about 24 on record, including a Sergio... but maybe not him.. he would have been about 69 years old (guessing) if he immigrated there... You could also order info on him as well...
http://www.naa.gov.au/the_collection/recordsearch.html
"search now as a guest"... and just type in surname only for keyword...
-----------------------------------------------
I am looking for other info through Ancestry.com...
There are other search engines... http://www.cyndislist.com/nj.htm but many want $...
----------------------------------------------
To research from Family History Film... the timeframe is perfect for locating a birth record for Sergio... Civil Registration from 1910-1809

Tips from Trish: Steps on obtaining microfilm from a Family History Center

Maybe he went by some other given name...?? He's tough to find...
Do you know where your Great Grandfather is buried? Maybe he is buried at the same cemetery (or same as his wife)... I also checked the obits...
I think Debbie's advice is really good... worth checking out.

Re: searching for Sergio rutigliano
wow,
that Australian site is interesting! Not the sergio Rutigliano I'm looking for but i did find other relatives.
I have one question regarding the Latter Day saints reels. within this listing:
Within Registri dello stato civile, 1809-1910 there are other listings that further break down the dates for example:
nati 1892-1897 FHL INTL Film 1963637
nati 1897- 1900 Fhl Intl Film 1978474
Are the above each seperate reels? Or is everything on one reel?
If they are multiple reels, How many are you allowed to rent at one time?
Once again, I thank everyone for this great info,
Mauro

Re: searching for Sergio rutigliano
Yes they are separate reels... but from what I can see see, Nati (births) for 1897 are on both reels mentioned above... maybe they couldn't fit all the 1897 births on one reel and continued them on the next.nati 1892-1897 FHL INTL Film 1963637

As far as I know there is no limit... I've ordered a few at a time - knowing I was going to re-new them... plus I was sharing the research with my cousins...
If you do order - and receive your film, first thing you do... is make a copy of every index on that reel (if they exist), and then look for your ancestor... it will save you time...
It sure is! One day, just out of curiosity, I was browsing thru the Australian archives and found my Grandfather. He was a WW2 POW - in a labour camp, and I was able to get a photograph of him, his POW report card, and his voyage info.. simply by asking. I was able to get these for free -about 3 years ago, but they may charge for copies today... There are group shots of POW that can be found on line... just time consuming to go through them.that Australian site is interesting!
If I can't find people in America, I go to Australia...

Re: searching for Sergio rutigliano
Hi Shoegal,
That is a strange coincidence! although rutigliano is a common last name, I don't believe that there were many from Molfetta.
How old is your dad? and when did he come to the states?
The Sergio Rutigliano i'm searching for was born around 1884. He had two brothers (that i know of) Angelo Rutigliano (my great-grandfather) and surprisingly enough Mauro Rutigliano
Their parents were Giovanni and Maria Rutigliano
