Help finding Italian birth certificate

Post by nbandy90 »

Hello, I have been trying to track down my great-great-grandfather's birth certificate from Termini Imerese, Italy, but I have been completely unsuccessful. His was born as Pasquale DeLuca on 27 August, 1887 (supposedly) and later changed his name to Charles after immigrating to the US. I have tried searching the birth records in Termini Imerese for 1887, but could not find him as Pasquale or Carlo. I was also unable to find his father's death records in the same city for the year 1892. I'm not sure how to proceed, as my next option would be expanding out to search other towns in Palermo, but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. My great-grandfather was pretty adamant about his father's birthplace and year. Any help would be appreciated, as this document is needed to begin my Italian naturalization process.

Thanks for the quick reply.

His father's name was Giuseppe DeLuca, born 1841 at an unknown location in Italy, and died October of 1892 in Termini Imerese.

His mother was Anastasia Cocilovo, born 27 August 1854 in Italy and died 22 June, 1914 in Baltimore, Maryland.

He was Pasquale Silvio DeLuca, later Charles, born 27 August, 1887 in Termini Imerese, immigrated 1893, died 22 July, 1958 in Baltimore.

He married Anna Catherine Foose, daughter of German immigrants, born 3 August, 1887, died 6 December, 1969, both in Baltimore. I believe Füß is the German spelling.

It may be meaningless, but the 10 year index for the period 1886-1895 indicates a Pasquale De Luca was born in 1886, atto number 23. See https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... ,246052601

Man, you all are wizards. I went through those death records, but somehow missed that the last names were listed first.

Looks like the Termini public records are in no particular order for the year 1886...unfortunate. Has anyone had any other success? I'm leaving the country in a few months and may not be able to revisit the naturalization process for quite some time.

FYI - I believe the record is #23 in the Second Part (S. P.) or Supplemental, as indicated in the index. :-)

Here's the actual record referenced above. You'll have a bit of work ahead with reading & translation:

I'm revisiting this again. Can anyone tell me if the birth record for Pasquale contains the name of his mother and father? I can't make out the handwriting.
